I agree with you though. IL strikes me as the sort who'll make an offer he regards as reasonable, and maybe - just maybe - will up it a little, but will certainly not enter a bidding war.

He has a much firmer grasp on the finances than Maurice did, and seems determined to keep a fair tranche of the money aside for our junior talent.

That would actionable if I could be bothered reporting it. We all know what really happened re. Wigan's so-called cap breach, but believe what you wish. Either way, you still paid through the nose for him, and in retrospect that was just fine with Wigan fans.
