I don't understand the club going after Patrick.
After the WCC Waney said we were outsized (my word) and we'd have to look again at our recruitment.
That's why I could understand the Tautai signing. He's 6'3" and big with it. If we had to go "big" in certain games then a 2nd row of Joel & Tautai would be very big.
Patrick is a good player but isn't that big. We have two very good average sized 2nd rowers in Faz and Bateman and another seems odd.
Dont get it really I suppose.
As for the rumour about Makinson. I've always been impressed with him. What he does lack seems to be that blistering pace that Charnley and Burgess have. Throw into into that Hampshire and that has to be the fastest back three in SL. That's if they all get to play alongside each other!

Larne Patrick is more of an impact prop I feel, I don't think he suits what you need at the moment. Somebody more in the mould of Amor or Huby would be benficial to your pack. A big metre maker that can help control the arm wrestle.

As for Makinson, I'd wager that he is probably just as fast as Charnley or Burgess. What he doesn't have though is the evasion skills of the aforementioned meaning you don't tend to see him beating men in his own half and scoring from deep.

Brough yes! Would be just about the perfect signing for me. Patrick big no for mine. We need size, Patrick is steady similar to Flower in what he brings, we need something a bit different up front in my opinion, size being one of the key elements of that.

The thing about the Makinson rumour that basically tells me it's a no is the sheer lunacy on his part of joining Wigan. I'd welcome him with open arms. I've met him and he's a decent lad but what can Wigan give him that Saints haven't/can't give him? A GF win, their top try scorer and voted their player of the year. I assume, being a Wigan lad that Wigan would have had dibs on him, but they passed. I'd love him to be a replacement (if the Charnley rumours are true) but he just won't be in a million years.

If Scott Taylor can want out of Wigan to play for his home town club anything is possible!

FWIW though 'If' we need a replacement for a winger anytime soon it'll be Manfredi that gets the job IMO. After him it would probably be somebody like Tierney or even Thornley. If we were to sign somebody from outside the club it would be a project player they believe they can really improve (like Sarginson) not a player like Makinson who would command top money.

None of us wanted to lose Taylor but Patrick would be a very good replacement IMO. A set of props of Flower, Patrick, Clubb, Crosby, Tautai and Pettybourne with Greenwood and Sutton as back up is still very good. May be lacking a "pack leader" but there is still plenty of quality and experience there.

Did Wane and Radlinski not say after the World Club Challenge that they were looking to increase the size of the Wigan side in future? Would Larne Patrick fit into that vision?

I must apologise for suggesting that Manfredi passed like a man being tazered. He certainly looked much better than that during the season.
