The key steps when faced with this announcement are: - point out what a loss he is and how you've always rated him (no need to point to any prior evidence such as threads protesting when he was dropped); - point out how this shows that the club simply cannot retain any players of note (ignore any suggestions that we have 9 current England squad members, astonishingly not including Goulding); - point out that it is a sign of penny pinching (ignore any suggestion HKR may have thrown loads of money at him as they may consider him marquee while we consider him squad player); - point out that we won't even be able to raise a team as we will simply let our players go (ignore any suggestion that we have no idea yet and won't have for 6 months who the club is going to bring in and turn a particular blind eye to bringing Joel back, for a fee, which also needs to ignored for the purposes of the preceding paragraph); - point out that IL and SW are driving the club into the ground and oblivion (ignore the trophy laden last 4 years); and - point out anything in any public announcements that either accords with the above or, where it doesn't, lambast it and the person saying it, especially Rads (ignore the cherry and white blood that flows through Rads' veins and the purpose of all such PR, to say anything vaguely "good" and positive, regardless of the truth). Have I missed anything? Once mastered, with a couple of tweaks, the above approach can be applied to pretty much any comings (not good enough) or goings (far too good), rumours, injuries, even the club shop.
Yep, that and, just like us, the other big clubs wouldn't have offered him a starting spot for 2015. He's had a couple of good seasons in 2010 and 2012 but I think we need to be realistic about whether this is actually that big a loss. Despite the very long period of time he's been with us and the mass of appearances, he's hardly set the world alight
What other clubs may or may not offer him has got nothing to do with the state of our team which is the overriding factor.
If you judge our players on whether or not other big clubs will give Goulding a starting spot then given they wouldn't touch Gelling or Sarginson in the centres with a very long barge pole just exactly where does that leave us centre wise as Wane seems adamant we aren't recruiting any?
The comments from Wane about players such as Hughes or JT being able to play centre as if they are a better option is a typical Wane opening mouth before engaging brain type of comment. If that is the case why isn't Hughes playing centre every week now ahead of Goulding if he is such a threat to his position?
I think this negativity toward Goulding is yet another example of the "now he's leaving he was never very good" syndrome cropping up again.

Or alternatively:
The key steps when faced with this announcement are:
Ignore the fact said player has been first choice for the past several seasons Ignore the coach suggesting he should be in the England squad Ignore the fact the club did offer him a new contract Ignore it when people point out discussions about him being unfairly dropped even suggesting there weren't any. Conveniently forget whenever he was injured and make out he was dropped instead. Exaggerate any injuries they may have to the extent they are career threatening and we are thus well rid (posters can ask Gimmy for pointers about that one, he's the expert). Make out he wasn't that good anyway despite repeated selection for the first team. Treat the PR BS that follows such an announcement as proof the other players he keeps out of the team are in fact better. Assume because the player isn't going to Leeds, Saints or Wire no other team is capable of assembling a good side despite the fact they will have as much cash to spend as these teams and us in 2015.
Once mastered, with a couple of tweaks, the above approach can be applied to pretty much any replacement (always better than the player leaving) or goings (never were that good), rumours, injuries, even the club shop.

That made me laugh - I'll take it as a homage. Superb. If the internet does nothing else, it acts as a great tool for polarising views.
Both Mark Sneyd and Leon Pryce are said to have signed for Hull for next season according to the M.E.N, that's another two names that can be scratched off the Wigan shopping list.
