As for transfer fees for either him or Hampshire it's hard to say. They aren't established so you wouldn't be talking massive sums (ala Tomkins) but it would take a wedge way above what I can see Saints wanting (or being able to afford) to pay.

Salford are the only club I could see being able to cherry pick players like those two with big cash bids and by paying salaries above what their current worth to a first team would be.

Perhaps I used the wrong word, I don't doubt williams quality, but he doesn't have the same rep (yet) as Hampshire.

On the face of it, I'd be amazed if anything less than 6 figures from anyone (let alone rivals) would be minimum for it to be a consideration, but when you consider Chase was released for 110k by koukash, I can't see that happening - also, can't see koukash being sensible enough to make bids for these guys

you can't stop players leaving for the NRL or Union but you can stop them leaving for another super league club. As for testing their market value you can't compare them to Rangi Chase he wasn't developed by cas, he was/is still a overseas player, never rated the best young genuine half back partnership and he always wanted out of Cas. Richie Myler would be the closest comparison even tho a lot has changed since then and both Williams and Hampshire are more round players than he was.

Anyway the dream is to have an all english spine and in the next 2 years i believe it will be.

1. Hampshire/ Tierney
6. Williams (has a better running game)/ Powell
7. Smith/ Powell
9.McIlorum/ Tomkins/ Powell

He is off contract but Wane is obviously a fan and I'd be very surprised to see him leave. If he gets a huge offer maybe it's a possibility but would a club throw silly money at a solid rather then spectacular player like Goulding? Doubt it personally.

It's not even like he's in Tuson's boat of not getting picked so he couldn't use that as a reason for leaving and Hansen's love of Salford excuse (aka I've been offered a huge wedge) won't work either.

I'd be surprised to see Goulding leave, given the injury to Thornley. But aside from that, I'm not convinced young Daz will finish his career at Wigan. He seems to be a rapidly fading force.

Whatever the reason behind that, I now worry a lot about our right-side defence. I know it isn't just him, but he seems a shadow of the player he was two years ago. At some point I feel this will really cost us.

If he leaves, some will undoubtedly paint it as another loss that could have been avoided, but I'm really not sure it would be such a big deal.

I share your view totally on this.... He seems to have been dogged by niggling injuries, i just wonder, along with you, what is the problem..

that determination he had to make it at Wigan seems to have wavered a little this season, but i may be wrong he might be still sick or injured.

This. I have always viewed him as a decent yet unspectacular pro. IMO it would depend on what other options are available. It could also be if Wigan offer him a 1 year extension and other clubs offer a 3 or 4 year deal then he would go for the security. I don't think it would be in Wigan's interest to offer a long term deal.
