 Don't know where you lot are getting that Smith has a good kicking game? Often out of position when it comes to the last kick, rarely splits full back and wingers and more often than not the kick is caught of the full. His short kicking is better than his long kicking, but even his short kicks after go over the white wash and don't hold up in goal. I will agree he plays behind a beaten pack majority of time so him may flourish with some beef infront of him. One note on Smith he can fill in at hooker easily and tend to spend up the play the game. Please don't be fooled by his kicking game, as a Salford fan it's not what your expecting.
That was one of the reasons I wanted Wigan to sign him.
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
What about when he went back to them in the play offs he beat wire on his own that night
I'm not saying he is a world beater and not saying he's better than Finch or Tommy but he's one of the best options we have at the moment and i really think he could bring something to our team

Whats your opinion on Smith Rogues good business or what?
I think so. He'll have a good pack with him at Wigan, which is what he needs to have around him to suit his game. I think it will be good business especially as i cant see us offering the sort of money Widnes was rumored to be throwing at him.

Good business if we use him correctly, i.e. Scrum half and interchange hooker with Mickey Mac. As I have said to Saints fans many times, Saints made a big mistake in letting Smith go and keeping Scott Moore.
The only issue I have with signing Smith is that he's incredibly similar to Sam Powell, so would that mean Wigan don't see Powell stepping up? I know he's still young and hasn't made his debut yet but I think Powell has more potential than Smith. Having said that, they could both fit in if they play well.
Wigan are weighing up an audacious swoop for Salford’s Matty Smith and Castleford’s Rangi Chase. The Warriors have joined the scramble for Smith’s signature and will match any offer made to him by arch rivals St Helens. Coach Nathan Brown, who takes charge of Saints next season, has already identified Smith as a potential target, but now faces stern competition from Wigan. Wigan’s interest in Chase follows reports that the current Super League Man of Steel is among a number of players who are wanting out of Castleford at the end of the season. Wigan are monitoring the situation with them needing a replacement for Kiwi star Thomas Lewluai, who will return to the NRL in Australia next season. The future of Warriors’ Aussie half-back Brett Finch is also uncertain. Salford scrum-half Smith and Chase could pair up at half-back, though Wigan face a fight for the Salford man as Widnes Vikings have also offered him an enticing three-year deal worth up to £140,000. A new offer from Salford to keep him at Barton remains on the table, but it now seems increasingly likely Smith will quit the Reds at the end of the season. Salford coach Phil Veivers has admitted he’s concerned as he faces up to the fact he could also lose in-form centre Sean Gleeson to Hull KR and Bradford Bulls are tipped to target Reds winger Danny Williams.
Not sure if this has been posted and I know it's the MEN and they can't spell Tommy's name but first I have heard of a link with Chase.

In a straight choice between the two you are right Rogues.
However neither of them were/are top class SL standard and Smith is very much a '1 good game in 5 or 6' type of player. Big step down from your current SH in my view and am surprised at Wigan going for him.
