I'm not sure on Matty Smith, apart from one good performance against Saints for Salford in 2010 and a shambolic grand final appearance - what has he done to spark our interest?

Would signing Smith, an average english half back at best (not even in the England Squad), benefit us? We have some useful backs coming through, I'd rather give them a shot instead.

I seriously can't understand this signing, it's almost as bad as Kevin Brown!!

I'd be happy with Smith just as long as we sign Finch for another year or 2, Smiths kicking is good and Finch organises well, perfect combo.

Don't know where you lot are getting that Smith has a good kicking game? Often out of position when it comes to the last kick, rarely splits full back and wingers and more often than not the kick is caught of the full. His short kicking is better than his long kicking, but even his short kicks after go over the white wash and don't hold up in goal. I will agree he plays behind a beaten pack majority of time so him may flourish with some beef infront of him. One note on Smith he can fill in at hooker easily and tend to spend up the play the game. Please don't be fooled by his kicking game, as a Salford fan it's not what your expecting.

Yet Saints got rid.

not in the same league as Finch or Tommy.

Smith is nowhere near as good as Tommy or Finch.
However, our current coaching staff do have the ability to improve players beyond the level they used to be at.
MicMac, Charnley, Goulding for three and I do feel the whole squad has improved under Wane & Harris.
With Harris and Deacs around, two former International half backs, Smith will improve above the levels he was at when at Saints or now at Salford.
He could turn out to be a very good signing if his off season goes ok.
