It's not like they don't exist, you know.

And how good would they have to be to do a better job than the RFL? Seriously, how many clubs have gone to the wall since the Salary Cap was introduced to save us all?

As for the RFL running the place without the clubs having a vote, the thought of Messrs Wood, Rimmer & Solly under the influence of Gary Hetherington having the last word on all things RL is too awful to contemplate.
What's in place now is far from ideal but it's better then the RFL having a monopoly on all decisions made.

I never liked the Marquee Player idea anyway. A club can bring in any highly paid mercenary from Aus or NZ and make him their Marquee Player.
The direction they should go in IMO if there is to be a salary cap exemption is it to apply to home grown players or as they are now know Club Trained.
That would cover the likes of the Tomkins brothers, Burgess brothers, Graham, Mossop, Cooper etc as they were products of their respective youth structures and were all club trained.

It shouldn't be 'either/or' though Ted. It should be both. Our game desperately needs it's profile raising or we are fighting a losing battle anyway. The likes of Wigan, Leeds, Saints etc. would benefit from an exemption but, equally, if the likes of Salford, who don't really have the structures in place to benefit from an exemption, want to splash the cash instead, then so be it! However we attract or keep stars in our game is good. It's not as though we struggle to produce players so if Koukash is prepared to buy success we should actively encourage him. The more newsworthy, the better! The knock on effect of having stars in the game is that more kids get into it, start playing and develop in to the next generation of players. It's win/win as far as I can see.

Considering most of the posters on here know more than anyone else about how to run a club - how about some supporter representation on the board? Or would they have to be "business people" as well as supporters?

Business people exist to make money. You can't make money out of Rugby League. Entrepreneurs are by their nature risk takers. If you want someone to take a risk with your club then be prepared to accept failure and financial ruin as a possibility.

I seem to remember Halifax, London, Gateshead and Paris all having financial problems too in Super League (and maybe Wakefield), but let's assume none of those were down to financial mismanagement at the clubs, and that it's actually only Crusaders and Bradford who've messed up. Two is not insignificant.

In principle, I don't oppose a salary cap, but I think modifications need to be made to try and bring in some degree of protection against those seeking to pilfer our best players.

Whether you'd agree with that or not, I don't know, but mocking the mere notion that good business people should have a place in Super League sounds a bit weird to me, given that the one thing you really want at a club is someone who can create financial security.

It's been posted on redvee (by a wiganer!) that Micky Mc and Charnley have agreed NRL terms for next year , anyone else heard similar?

Not heard anything but if true I would not be at all surprised given the clubs record in recent years when it comes to selling players.
