Rather than have a marquee player exemption I'd prefer to see a "club trained" player exemption. That would have covered Graham, Tomkins and Burgess bros.
A marquee player could be a very highly paid over 30 NRL man looking for a last big payday before retirement. We've had a lot of clubs make that mistake before and it doesn't want repeating.
Total exemption for "club trained" every time for me!

In theory, the amount of money we could save from this new rule should allow use to spend more on NRL talent anyway, we shouldn't need a 'marquee' player exemption with this rule. Hopefully this would encourage Koukash to invest in young talent.

Lets say Lockers, Charnley, McIlorum and Farrell were earning an average of 140k per year, that would free up an extra 160k to spend on the cap.

Personalky I like this new rule and would like to see a two 'marquee' player exemptions, one for an NRL player and one for a Union player. Turn around the player drain for the clubs that can afford it and produce their own talent.

It is not a new rule its a proposal only contained in the RFL policy review.

That was ratified along with the structure changes ... Which is why it's presented alongside the structure changes.

The home grown rule is a player must have been at a club for 3 seasons under the age of 21. Tommy L for example is classed as home grown for London even though he is from NZ.

before any wire fans get their knickers in a twist, this isn't a dig at warrington but this rule could seriously come back and hurt them. you have Ben currie and Matthew russell who we would could pay big money too and myler and ratchford at salford.

Also i wonder if this will help keep the fringe players like chris tuson for example? because now they would be able to be paid higher salary rather than a fringe player salary.

Ben Currie was never a Wigan academy player, although he was at Wigan on a scholarship up to the age of 16. I would imagine that once a player leaves a club that ruling won't be allowed.

My Mistake. could hull Kr do the same with scott taylor? if i was them i would clear out all those aussies and chuck the bank at him, going to be the best prop in super league in the next year or 2

Myler came through at Widnes, Salford picked him up after Widnes's financial troubles (along with Sidlow IIRC). I don't think he then stayed at Salford for the required 3 years to allow him to count as a Salford trained player.

I think we only had Myler for two years so I don't think he'd count under this ruling. Steff would count and I'd much rather have him at Salford rather than Myler
