It clearly needs work and we don’t look quite right but hopefully it’ll improve with time and patience. Salford were disjointed, so we were quite lucky in that regard but you take it where you can get it. We’ve got some fixtures now to work on things.

We were lucky that Salford had a couple of key players missing.
In the first half we had a big territorial advantage but struggled again to turn pressure into points.
Obviously happy with the win and the the points differential.
I thought Mago played better than he has done for quite a while.

Mago & Singleton turned up to better effect yesterday than either has done for a while. I would say Hill should be higher in the pecking order than both of them (with eyes on the future), but not in there without one or the other until Ellis returns.

Mago is baffling...looks decent when he can be arsed, but his defence isn't the best.

Smithies outstanding again.

Just watched the game back. Who was named MotM? Miski had as good a shout as anyone for me, very impressive. Smithies and King were good, Smith kicked well from hand.

It was a Salford player. Sorry but I can’t say who it was as the sound system wasn’t that good.
I would have given it to Smithies or Miski for Wigan.
I thought French was very quiet. As NK has said French needs to concentrate on his running game and leave the distribution to Smith.

I'm not sure he can atm. He's in a position that's completely alien to him when he gets the ball with little space between him and the defenders. Iv thought about different scenarios where French and Field in the spine could work and still think that the benefits outweigh the costs with French at 1 and Field at 6. Not worth throwing in the bin on the back of the Magic weekend. Outside of that we could maybe try having Field at 1 and French at 6 without the ball but switch when in possession or try and trial playing with two fullbacks.

French's best moments have been some of the most exciting since Jason Robinson and they've all happened when he's had space.

I think we need to have a more varied plan to get French and/or Field into the attack rather than rely on a pass out of the back or either of them getting outside the shoulder of a tired defender.

They should on a regular basis be running on the shoulder of a 2nd row (Nsemba) or forward (probably Mago but anyone else who can offload, such as King, and be available for the offload. It automatically puts doubt in the defender as to who to go for, ball carrier or Field/French and takes the pressure off them having to create the gaps themselves. Field was able to do this last season, especially early on but we seem to have discarded it as an option. Much harder to defend against even for the more disciplined defensive teams.

Pretty much exactly how Field broke the line yesterday on the shoulder of Farrell.

We were under the stand, just about to take my first sip of a pint. Absolutely frikning! Word of warning would be decent next time. Girls behind the bar looked like they were going to duck for cover.
