I actually really like Wheeler, (when he's fit) can play a variety of positions, has a good rugby brain and a good step. If Wigan can get him and more importantly keep him fit then he could fill a number of spots. He's better than the likes of Thornley and Gelling already.

I would see Wheeler as a Stand Off. I don't think it's fair to copmpare him to Gelling and Thornley - who let's face it have enough on their plates getting a game with the like of Sarginson, Burgess and Manfredi now in the squad.

I think Wheeler would easily get into Saints team at 6 if he ever got fit. Perhaps they just need to be patient with him. He'd be a good addition to our squad if Green goes at the end of his contract.

If was trying to sign him as a 6 it would be a waste of time. I would much prefer s.powell and Williams over him.

I'd agree with you. But it's interesting how few of us spotted Green's potential at Hull KR. Come to that the same with Taylor - who is now showing up to be an awesome player. I think that absolutely no-one saw Sarginson's potential, to be honest (and he's looked great at Leigh and Saints). So I guess I'm saying that if SW thinks Wheeler is good enough (and we don't yet know that he does) then it's likely he's right!!!!

You must be joking. I remember seeing a scrawny young kid playing at The Stoop against us and asked the London supporter sat next to me who it was. "Sarginson" he said. I replied that he looked like a top class prospect, he was superb that day.
In the long bar after the game I was speaking to Ian Lenagan and the conversation came around to Sarginson. Lenagans words "He's going to be a very good player"

Personally i was happy with blake green signing he is a traditional half back and could see that at hull KR and i knew finch was finished. Didn't know much about Taylor. Personally i think powell and william will become full internationals in the next 5 years But i won't questions Shaun Wanes signings.

Rogues i remember you posting that and thinking the same. But i didn't expect him to be a first choice Centre this season.

About the time he and Clubb were signed I don't recall anyone saying what great signings they were - but if you did, apologies - and well done for spotting his potential. I do recall him having a good game at the DW two years ago, but can't remember if he actually played against us last season at all. I can't be bothered checking, but I don't think he did.

I was initially critical of the Clubb signing, as I thought we had better players already. But since then Hansens moved on and Clubb is looking a decent signing. I think Sarginson has stalled a bit since his initial emergence, but I don't think you can read too much in to their London form from last season. They were playing in an awful team and getting tonked every week. Jamie soward was probably one of the top 5 or 6 half backs in the NRL when we played St George in 2011 and he looked no better than average playing for London in 2013

I remember him in 2011 at the stoop v Wire he was playing at 6 with Gale that day and after that game I thought wow he'll be a cracking player, he was the only shining light for them that day, we battered them but he scored a great try on the left edge if I recall jinking through players.

Not sure if this counts as a rumour, but while on the subject of Clubb, I think we should play him at prop with Bateman in the second rwo for the big games, as he hasn't got league in his DNA sufficiently to play as a natural 2nd row yet. It could come with time and he has fantastic physical attributes, but I would be concerned he would lose us a big game by a mis read or being in the wrong position.
Sarginson will be a great player for us, a true utility back.
