Fair play to Wigan. They are willing to pay an extortionate amount of money for Zak to undertake professional and residential rehabilitation, which is his best chance of recovery from his addiction to alcohol. I know the RFL do fund some rehabilitation too at Sporting Chance, so hopefully they are contributing.
The easy option for Wigan would have been to keep him on and hope he sorted himself out. Or just to get rid.
As always in these cases, it’s only when he is back in society that the success of his rehabilitation can be evaluated. I sincerely hope it works out for Zak.
The only disappointment is the completely unnecessary insult aimed towards Leeds and Cas. Until his ban, he’d been the model professional at Cas (admittedly only for 9 months) and he’d had plenty of professional support and rehabilitation at Leeds too.
