No we have it all wrong people! It is Wigan's responsibility to produce young British players and have no ambition of our own to win a trophy or be competitive.

We are solely responsible for putting up with garbage performances from Wild, Hodgson, Brown etc etc etc, giving them many opportunities and sticking with them even though it means our team is a massive pile of gash!

You could have a class team with the likes of Briscoe, Hodgson and Wild in it. Back accelerate thing, I've already said part of a deal you have with a local uni. the UCLan aspects of the Accelerate Squad, which you've obviously heard about by doing a quick search online, are not as important as the overall purpose of the programme, which is to identify and prepare top local youngsters to a very high level, and deliver them into the first team squad at a rate of about two a season.

Now feel free to take the mickey out of polytechnics or whatever - a Huddersfield bloke being pompous about education, I've heard it all now!! - but this project is designed to ensure that Wigan gets the pick of its local youth and then takes them to the next level quickly and professionally. This is already the reason why about half our first team squad is made up of ex-Wigan Academy players, why the balance will swing even more in that favour in seasons to come, and why other clubs who've actually had the nerve to crow because they've picked up a few crumbs from our table will finally have to start looking closer to home.

I see similiarities between Wigan and where Hudds where when we appointed Nathan Brown. I think Maguire could have the same impact for you and part of that is getting the best out of some average players. I think Goulding has the talent, just needs a bit of coaching or extra support to shine...he will do though be it at Wigan or Salford or wherever.

Goulding = Aspinwall mark II.

Screams of being average despite a good grounding in the Academy.

Apinwall is pure gash, no offence to the lad but after that knee injury he has just looked way out of his depth. Also I am not a Huddersfield bloke...but you couldn't know that so I'll let it go...am a proud Londoner who lives up here. Anyway, hope the accelerate thingy works and benefits you and the game at large.

Goulding is following the exact same career path, and while i would not call either gash neither will be starting players in a team with trophy winning ambition.

There is no need what so ever for us to keep him.

We did not "Let Briscoe go" as you sosimply put it. At the time he was behind Radlinski, do you remember him?, who looked like he had 5/6 years left in him at the time. There was no way he could get a regular spot. You need to look at these things on a case by case basis, instead of making silly sweeping statements.

Or kicking off on Wigan Lane because someone wrote something about him on a message board.

Professionally, Goulding is streets ahead of Aspinwall.

I have not worked with many better professionals than Aspinwall in a club environment, not sure about away from it, would not like to comment.

Regards his on field performances I simply think that both there careers will run a similar path of good solid pro's with solid careers at mid table teams. They will never be top players but will earn a good living playing the sport for a decade or so, which is a fair achievement for anyone.
