I'd like us to bring someone in mid season if we can (between now and August preferably) to try and push us forward in the playoffs but injuries will be the big issue for us if we suffer a period similar to what we've just been through.

King for some reason doesn’t seem to get a break sometimes, there always seems to be a bit of a witch-hunt with him.

He makes a mistake it’s emphasised and when he plays well he’s on big money amongst other things. I think the only way that changes is if he becomes our player which looks increasingly unlikely.

Given the current announced recent signings I think we are building well and moving in the right direction.

We still need a few things though in my opinion at the very least.

1. An experienced quality prop.

2. To work out the Field French conundrum. As exciting as it is unless it is resolved it’s going to hold the potential of the team back.

For what it’s worth (which is very little) my solution as mad as it seems is allow Field to move on and sign a natural 6 with French at 1, as I think French is the superior fullback of the 2 and neither are halves and French is wasted on the wing.

3. I would have said secondrow but I think with Nsemba and maybe Chan we can look to other areas depending on what happens with King.

I have been on the fence with regards to King staying due to his apparent big wage, nothing else really. I do think he’s done a good job and his meter making in our own half has been brilliant and something that will almost certainly be dropped off by his replacement (certainly Keighran). If we can find a way to keep him I’d be happy.

A half, a centre and another back rower

That surprises me. 3 more coming in sounds about right but I thought it would be a centre, prop and prop/second rower. I thought Keighran (if he joins) and Leeming would potentially take the need to sign a half away, especially with French/Field playing in the halves, makes me think Miski is leaving or maybe even one or French or Field.

If this info is correct it’s looking a bit like this for next year:

Incomings
Leeming
Walters
Chan
Keighran?
Half?
Second rower?

Outgoings
Singleton
King?
Mago?
Cust?
Thornley?
Hampshire?
Powell?
Miski?
Isa?

Potentially quite the overhaul but of the potential departures only Kingand really Miski would be hard to take and with a new half he could see Miski as third choice winger again so I’d like to think we will be lining up next season a better team than this year

Having watched some highlights of Walters recently I'm inclined to agree with Jonh that second row may be his position - seems to be very effective a little wider.

I too would like an experienced quality prop plus a quality second row forward. Regarding your second point, that thought has also crossed my mind.

Only if Wigan don’t take up the option of an extra year.

I think Wigan see Keighran as a half.

Whatever does happen it’s nice to see us moving early and getting ahead of the game. There have been times in the past when we’ve been waiting for things to happen (or at least news of it) in to the off season. There also seems to be a more ruthless edge to the recruitment/retention, which is again refreshing (although there is a risk to making more ruthless decisions).
