They 100% knew Bateman was going at the time they handed French the new deal. I have no reason to make it up. The money they gave French in order to sign a new deal would not have been possible with Bateman's money as well.

Now I'm not saying all of Bateman's money went on French and there is nothing to play with - I'm just saying and I said at the time that the idea Wigan suddenly had all of Bateman's money spare wasn't true at all.

FYI, Dupree's agent appears to be a certain Iestyn Harris who is/was Niall Evalds agent when he left Salford after verbally agreeing a new deal. I think that tells you a lot. Dupree signed a new 3 year deal with Salford back in December and contrary to all the BS you read on Social Media we don't need to sell him. Like I've said on the Wire board, anyone that wants him can pay up or shut up basically. KR have the cash and looks like they're happy to splash it so feel free to join the bidding war.

FWIW, it's really poor form from Tyler. But ultimately money talks.

How well has he played recently? I’m a stats bore and when I look at him from that POV, there seems to have been a real drop off (he ran for only 34 metres against Saints) since his England appearance. That would worry me if I were paying money for him, as would the fact he’s kicking up this fuss in the first place. Salford have been unbelievable for his career and it feels a bit off that he’s now trying to get out after they’ve given him a long deal and helped make him an England player.

Believe me mate, a proportion of Bateman’s salary went to two players and one wasn’t French.

Once a player wants to leave a club their unhappiness at being there often results in a drop off in form. It’s a frustrating and unprofessional trend usually manufactured to force a move through.

He's definitely not been as explosive as earlier in the season but maybe that's because he's been playing big minutes due to all the injuries we've had in the pack and our inability to rotate. I think he's got all the potential in the world but he's only 23 and got a lot to learn.

It was. Wigan knew Bateman was leaving around August time. Wigan did use a BIG part of His salary to keep French.

To put it simply, if Bateman had stayed, then French simply couldn’t be on the deal he’s on now n

Would that also suggest Wigan were then lying, when they said Bateman leaving took them by surprise post World Cup? That never made any sense anyway given all the rumours. Had his move not come off though, then what?

Just shows the moving pieces going on at clubs in the background I guess.

Technically yes Wigan were creative with the truth but it’s PR that you’d expect not just from Wigan but from any club so I wouldn’t hold it against them.

It was common knowledge amongst the Wigan players and staff well before the World Cup that Bateman was heading back to the NRL.
