Wigan have the option of extending by a year if they want to, so guess it would depend on that.

i think the position on Miski may have changed from a club perspective. he has gone from a bit part player taking up an overseas quota spot, to a regular winger adding good metres and scoring tries in a very short period of time. Our back line seems to be firing pretty well at the minute with French, Miski, King, Wardle, Marshall taking the back 5 spots. Players to return to cover 6, with good competition there now with Field, Cust and Hamshire.
Whilst there is no doubt the club will see more than we do as fans, re Miski, it has often been felt or commented on the forums that as a back up winger it was a waste of a quota spot. if he has cemented his place, fair play to him for taking his chance and if he gets an extension i dont think there would be too many complaints.

what that does do however, is move the spotlight to no6, and having Field / Cust sat on the bench or out of the 17 instead of focus on Miski on the wing. Field is obviously contracted. Cust didnt do a lot wrong without setting the world on fire previously and has clearly been impacted by his current injury. So i suppose our dilema is do we offer Cust an extension (on basis i'm right and he is ooc :) )?

It’s basically for me a choice between Cust and Miski.

For me it’s a simple choice and Miski has to stay out of those 2.

The only way I would want up to let Miski go is if we have a top quality more complete winger lined up.

I can’t in my head see a scenario where Cust should stay.

Moving forward I think we need to go French 1, Field at 6.

its amazing how quickly a situation can change. i know both players are ooc at the end of the season, and at the start of the season, i dont think many would have complained if Cust stayed and Miski left. Fast forward a few games and its a complete reversal of the situation, especially given Field is contracted for another season (or 2?)

i agree with your thoughts and its credit to Miski that he's got his head down, clearly worked hard off the pitch, and taken his change when he was given it. Our back 5 as i put earlier looks solid, and making really good yardage out of our own 20, as well as scoring tries.

so on that basis Cust would be the one to leave at the end of the season, and with Hamsphire as backup for more than just 6, we have cover too

I’m not sure on Miski’s future plans with regards to NRL but I’d be happy to keep him on and have him first choice winger. Other than the link mentioned above FC I’ve heard Leeds are interested. The way it stand it would only be the offer of more money that takes him away from Wigan, he would struggle to get to the NRL playing in the FC and Leeds side as it stands

Ian Watson is quoted in League Express as saying that Owen Trout has rejected a new contract because other clubs "are throwing money at him". Are we one of the throwers do you think?

Doesn't feel like someone Wigan would 'throw money' at. Other teams in a worse spot may feel more of a need to.
