| Quote kirkamania6="kirkamania6"Right so if we've signed Griffin and an NRL prop, some people are saying that Coley has been offered a new deal? What about Bailey too, surely we can't have signed 2 forwards and then renewed deals for Bailey and Coley? Wouldn't be fair on the likes of Mossop, Prescott and O'Carroll'"
If it's an NRL prop / second row and Griffin, then it's got to be the door for Bailey. The number of imports has to start coming down, not expanding.

I agree there's nothing Bailey does that Joel, Hansen or Mossop can't do apart from be vocal on the field. So if we could replace his leadership there is no need for Bailey

| Griffins stats for the last two seasons do not stand up overall to either Fielden (who was appalling for a large part of last season and has hardly been ripping up tree this) or Feka (who has generally better stats despite his limited game time).
If this is the level of signing we're making, we're actually going backward and shows the leadership of the club has accepted mediocrity as well as most of the fans.

| Griffin would only be a positive signing if he allowed us to replace a far more expensive player of equivalent quality, or a quota spot.
If he does neither of those, it is a poor signing. We already have 3 young front rowers who need game time, as well as Feka, Fielden and Coley.
If he comes, it can only be to release Coley or move him to 2nd row to release Bailey (which would leave us needing a new vice skipper/pack leader).
IF he comes, we could only truly judge once the squad is complete, and he had played a few games. At least they would be no 'acclimitising' period with him ! But it would not be a signing I would be overly impressed by.

I've think you've missed the point here.
No one is saying they want Griffin as our main prop signing but IF we sign a top Aussie prop AND Griffin it will be a good piece of Business as Griffin will only be playing as our 4th choice prop.
As far as I can see in the league there are very few fourth choice props who are better than him imo (Bailey at Leeds is gash as is Hargreaves etc).
I’d liken his signing to that of Fozzard at Saints as no one ever rated him but he’s a tough no nonsense guy who will rattle some feathers which is what we desperately need.
But then some fans will never be happy and think we can sign superstars in every position.

He is big and aggressive, a pack containing Coley, Feka, Griffin, our potential NRL recruit would finally have some size yard making capability in it.
As i said earlier the lad has not really done it at Hudds but he has great potential and got an England cap on merit.

I think in the modern day game you need 5 props to cover injuries and loss of form etc
1-New Prop
2-Feka
3-Fielden
4-Griffin
5-Prescott
I don't think O’Carroll has a future at the club sadly as at one stage it's gonna have to be him or Prescott and i think Prescott is the better player. O’Carroll has been lucky in that he got injured when he did. Next season could already be a write off as he has to find fitness and then form. It’s a big ask for him to work his way into serious contention till anything like the end of next season. We can’t run short in the props again
Mossop MAY develop into a prop but at the moment he’s just a good youngster who plays 2nd row.

If we sign the NRL Prop he is also very comfortable in the secondrow, so we would have lots of options across the pack with some real genuine size and a pretty good set of backs.

| Nobody knows the full facts about this rumoured signing. it may only be for a season until we have the fielden money to play with.
It also may not even happen now we have Hocks wages available for 2 seasons so we now can look at better quality.
But i also believe the packs stronger with Griffin in than O'Carroll at this moment in time. A years loan would do him no harm and he would come back a better player. I REALLY RATE O'CARROLL BTW. but with fielden being 15% the player he was we cant play both O'Carroll and prescott just yet.
Fielden
Feka
rumoured import
Prescott
Griffin
Is IMO stronger than this season

| If we signed 2 props for next year and kept Coley Fielden would only be my 6th choice prop tbh and he'd have to play very well to get a place in the 17 when everyone is fit.
The thing is with Fielden once that motivation is there to earn a new deal or a deal with another club i expect to see a totally different player.
He could be like a new signing in himself.

| If Griffin and a top class NRL prop are coming to Wigan then the pack could well be sorted after a number of years being underpowered.
Last week there was a rumour put on here that a brother of a current player may be signing. Chris Bailey was the most touted with Leon Pryce a very distant second and last.
If the club could announce the signings soon and say that's all that we are bringing in, we could put the "signings for next year" to bed and concentrate on this year.
That could help the team and the club!

I see what you're saying, but as far as English players go, there are only 5 on that list (Carvell being Welsh). Morley is 32, Peacock is 32 later this year and Andy Lynch is 30.
As a club we need to be looking at the best English players that are available and with Griffin having just turned 28 he should be entering his prime as a forward should the experts be believed.

I'm not missing the point at all. Griffin offers nothing different to what we've already got that has underachieved over the last few years. We gain nothing so what's the point? We need to move forward and we won't do that with Griffin. We can't sign superstars in every position but we need to add better than what we've got. THAT'S THE POINT.

Griffin stats show he doesn't make the yards of the key forwards we already have and his marker defence makes Feka look like a workaholic

A good example of the sort of crap that regularly gets generated among Wigan fans. You only need to mention that an Aussie star is being tapped by another SL club, and we're in uproar; the fact that we're not after him too is a sure sign that we've now accepted mediocrity as the norm, and as such are doomed to mid-table oblvion from now on ... even though the player in question was never ever going to the other SL club (Bradford in Wing's case, unless I'm mistaken).
If anyone wants proof, check the other forum where, now that Wing is out of the picture, the accusation has already been made that we're crap because Karmichael Hunt is apparently unsettled and we've not gone straight in for him.
As if there's ever any chance of players like Hunt and Wing coming to SL.

If you pay silly money you can get nearly anyone, but I think that'll be the exception rather than the rule. And it certainly won't be happening at Wigan again.
