i would try and tempt gibson from salford or wheeler from saints wouldnt break the bank but value for money.

Gibson isn't as good as Goulding so god knows the stick he'd get here. The Salford fans aren't overly impressed with him which says an awful lot.

Looking at Salford tonight Danny Williams is playing very well on his return from Union and Matty Smith could do a job in a side that has a pack that can at least get in to an even contest.

The chances of getting Wheeler or Gaskell from Saints are slim to none which is a shame as both are excellent as are Makinson and Lomax. Saints really have a cracking set of young backs coming through with the most hyped being the most over-rated and least talented of the bunch in Jamie Foster.

makinson is a hindley boy so unless he's got the sean long-esque something to prove attitude he could be v tempted in moving to us.

gibson was a very impressive youngster at leeds but suffered serious injury and has never looked the same again. agree he is probably similar standard to what we already have. not sure where it sits with our quota but setamata sa from les cats would be a top signing.

Having a scout about some of the RLfans boards and about half of the clubs have squad lists on with players contract end dates on. Some of the players out of contract at the end of this season include-

Mike Cooper, Gareth O'Brien- Wire
Gary Wheeler, Andrew Dixon- Saints
Luke Adamson, Matty Smith, Danny Williams- Salford
Willie Manu, Mark O'Meely, Sam Moa- Hull
Larne Patrick- Huddersfield
Oliver Elima, Tom Burgess- Bradford

Now the majority will be signed up by their current clubs before long but if I were Lenagan or Wane and was looking to whisper in a few agents ears i'd be speaking to the agents of Gareth O'Brien, Gary Wheeler, Matty Smith, Willie Manu, Sam Moa, Larne Patrick and Tom Burgess.

Let them know we'd be interested should they decide to move on.

Is Wheeler a realistic target as an avid Saints supporter playing for his home town club I can't see us convincing him to sign not unless we throw a lot of money his way. Personally I'm a great admirer of Gary's an I think he will prove his worth as a England international very soon.

I think every one is aware Wheeler is seen to be injury prone so I guess if he has a strong injury free season Saints will be more inclined to offer him a long term contract.

They will but if he's fit and not being selected the offer will reflect that.

Saints could become a victim of producing a good number of young, English outside backs all within a couple of years of each other. It's a tough job to keep them all at your club which always seems unfair.

Wheeler is a cracking player when he is fit and thats the trouble. If he had an injury free season I would certainly welcome him being signed as a Stand Off when Finch and Leuluai leave. He would add some much needed pace to the half backs and is such a threat. The big question is his injury record and if he had an injury free season I could see him staying at Saints anyway because for me he is a better Stand Off than either Lomax or Gaskell.
