He had his time and plenty of success, but he also left for a reason. I can see the appeal though.

Personally I think it's time to shake the game up again and bring in a Madge or Holbrook type. Get 18/24 months out of them, but really really set some new foundations and see how our latest group of youngsters carry it on.

Pretty much where I’m at. But along with it needs a complete overhaul of the back room staff. A clear out and a fresh deck with plenty scope for players inbound, which given those leaving is a reality.

My money however is on it being given to John Winder. The cheap and easy option. And so the circle continues.

Winder would be a huige mistake.

He is the attack coach under both Wane and lam and why our ruigby is so drab.

Completely agree.

But considering COVID and the financial implications of that, a change of coach could be an expensive venture. Money we may not necessarily have available. I’m speculating completely here by the way but I wouldn’t rule it out just yet.

I get the potential money and financial issues, BUT do they want fans back in the ground? What i mean is, if we keep serving up what we are on the pitch and keep depleting the team the way we are, they ain't going to sell many season ticket's!

I simply can’t accept money as an excuse to accept mediocrity. With IL on at the helm and with billionaire Mr Danson brought onto the board, we should be able to pay for top quality. Why bring people like that on to the board if they aren’t prepared to put their hand in their pockets?

I suppose we don’t know the full story so it’s difficult to be sure why he’s bought in. There was talk of Lenagan selling up but he denied that and they’ve kept Danson buying in pretty quiet. I wonder if the money he’s paid Lenagan for a share of the club is simply a down payment towards him buying it lock, stock and barrel down the line and for now he’s having no involvement, both financially and in the decision making.

Things are always pretty secretive with Wigan anyway so I guess the only way we’ll know is by seeing how the club invests money in to signings, staff, infrastructure etc or not.

Considering Danson's wealth grew by over 25% during the pandemic (as most billionaires' did) and his company is 70% owned by "insiders" he will still be very involved there. Its share price is currently a near record-high however he did sell 1.5% of his holding in January generating around £13M in cash - ideal amount to fund a new stadium? ;)

Either way this season and off-season feels like a pivotal moment for the club. A lot of turnover in players and coaches, a chance to address the squad imbalance and bring in some quality additions for next year. You would like to think we have the support of shareholders if needed.

What I find interesting is that almost every time a Wigan lad has left to the NRL, we've announced some big positive news alongside it, but that didn't happen with Gildart despite us knowing he was going at the end of this year probably since last year. To me that indicates we are playing catch-up a bit and there's still a lot of work to be done.

It could be as simple as someone to spread the load with the constant losses the club suffers,I’ve no idea but I certainly didn’t think he would start to bankroll the club, billionaires tend to stay that way by careful business practice rather than the “splash the cash” approach which would be nice but after all it’s not our money is it?

Gelling has returned home to New Zealand again for personal reasons and been granted release from Leigh. I think that puts paid to the rumours of him returning here.
His career has completely nose dived since leaving us really, he had cult status at Wigan and although he had a fair amount of critics on the whole he was liked and fit our style perfectly.
My feelings on the situation are pretty torn really, I do worry for his mental health a bit and they say it’s the loud ones that can suffer really bad but there was the issue with his missus the muddies my thinking even though he got acquitted.

I agree totally but with such a relatively low salary cap, why would he come into the board if he’s not prepared to spend a bit? Speculate to accumulate because without serious investment, those fans who have drifted will not be rushing back in a hurry. Full cap plus two marquee players is not negotiable if we want to get bums on seats and become top dogs again.
