We do business in a different way to how we used to now. We don't get in to bidding wars and due to that we seem to miss out on the vast majority of available English talent. We've seen it recently with Ratchford, Griffin, Mcarthy Scarsbrook, Carvell etc etc.

If both Wigan and Huddersfield put the same offer on the table for Patrick he'll stay with them IMO. They gave him his chance and are a good club. I think he'd want to repay them.

Add Shenton to that list also.

I can't 100% can't decide if it's a bad thing. There are players on that list I'd easily take at Wigan now. Shenton, LMS, Carvell and Ratchford would all get into our current squad and improve us also.

Sometimes the more expensive but long term English option is better when your building a squad.

I'd take the lot but only at the right price and it obviously wasn't at that time.

We signed players like Hoffman, Lima and Finch due to the Maguire link and before that Gleeson due to him having am ambition to play for his hometown team. We've literally not signed a player whilst having proper competition in Lenagans time but you could hardly say that's a bad thing given our success.

We need to be very organised and on the ball for 2013 though or we could be in a mess.

Sometimes you have to pay that little bit more for English talent.

Take Ratchford for example. He will be on a good and probably inflated wage but could be a Wire player for 10 years.

We have signed Gelling instead and it could be a master stroke. He could be a top draw player but I'd put money on him moving to the NRL sooner rather than later if he is. That means back to square one. What happens if no one is available should Gelling leave? Another gamble signing perhaps?

We aint building a squad to play in the NRL here. We shouldn't base our players or signings on if they are world class but more SL class. Guys like Brough, Shenton, Diskin or Ratchford aren't the Thurstons, Inglis or Cameron Smiths of this world but they are upper end SL quality players.

Get the right players in who wont be the Amos Roberts esq flash in the pans and will be here and play consistent for a decade.

Then after 10 years ask if he was over priced or not.

Brough is a player we should have been in for when he went to Huddersfield imo. He's exactly what we've needed for a number of years.

I think Lenagan may have to break that habit of not going a penny higher then what we value a player at this next off season. We certainly can't recruit like this year again replacing proven, experienced quality with young players with some potential, an unknown youngster with a poor past from down under and a player not one Wigan fan would have touched with a barge pole partway through last season.

They may prove to be masterstrokes but it'll be a while before they reach their potential here. When Tommy Leuluai, Carmont and possibly guys like Fielden and Finch leave next year we need proven quality to jump in their shoes.

He's a good SL player and more than holds his own in any team.

What's Arundel's contract status at Cas? I think he would be a good shout to replace Carmont next year. Cudjoe is a player who has improved massively over the last 12 months also.

I seem to remember Arundels contract being out at the end of this season. He's raw but a good prospect and he's another i'd be looking at.

The main one from Cas we should be throwing cash at is Daryl Clark. He's got a 5 year deal I believe so a fee would need to be forthcoming but he'd be worth it. He's an exceptional young player and looking at him Saturday he's but some bulk on which should enable him to take the next steps.

God yes.

Clark's worth a good fee to secure him, but in saying that those who watch the academy teams say Carberry's a great prospect.

Wouldn't grumble at all regarding Arundel, has good SL grounding.
