I'm pretty sure it was the sensationalist click bait headline that got under George's skin. The presenters skimmed over that saying you have to read the article. But irrespective of the content of the article, it was a cheap provocative tabloid headline which wasn't needed. Far too much of that in the gutter press with the sole motivation of hits and clicks.

The idea that George may be trying to manipulate the situation in order to fly home and continue picking up a wage from Canberra was ludicrous as well.

Wigan already have the best squad in SL by a mile. Signing Williams on top of that just seems unfair.....!

It's Fox so tabloid style clickbait "journalism" that stokes the outrage is par for the course. Bash the pommie also plays into some lazy Aussie prejudices too. Looking at the comments on social media it gets a lot of likes.

If covid hadn't happened there's a good chance both Williams and Bateman would still be at Canberra. Mind you the way they seem to brief against their own players in the media isn't a good look. There are more than a few players there that aren't happy. Think Stuart has lost the dressing room - Kent and Hooper seem to be his mouthpieces.

Even if Williams doesn't come back at worst I'm hopeful that Canberra (if not more/all NRL clubs) will be put off snapping up our players every 12 months and that Gildart will be the last for a good while.

I just read the new statement from Canberra..... Have you noticed there doing it for the members, sponsors....... And supporters at the end...... The supporters are last again.

I tried to watch, but I had to turn it off when they wanted "A clear demarkation made between 'Mental Health' and 'Homesickness'".

Absolute gang of whoppers.

They are deliberately denying that being forcibly separated from your family for a year has an effect on your mental wellbeing.

Also declaring that the club haven't kicked him out - They've simply agreed to his request.

No:
George asked for a release AT THE END OF THE YEAR.
Club offers 3 months off, then you must return and stay for the length of your contract.
When George asks again and says he doesn't feel right, they effectively sack him.
