I think we should look at the signings under Lenagans ownership first and foremost and ask if they've been good enough?

Mathers
Roberts
Pryce
Phelps
Carmont
Smith
Riddell

To be fair the clubs finances weren't in the best of states when he took over but some big earners have left the club in his time like Barrett, Calderwood and Higham yetwe've scratched around in the basement bin for replacements. A player like Carmont has been a steal and i reckon Riddell will prove a shrewd long term move but as for the rest.......

Lenagan has always talked about 2010 being the season the club would be back in a healthy state in salary cap terms and talked about that being the season he was looking at signing top draw players from down under for in an interview whilst down under last year.

I've got to say i'm not holding my breath.

Mathers won't be on a big wage and rumour has it he's on his way out.
Phelps did a job for us. Too early to say with Riddell and Roberts, with both carrying injuroes until recently. Pryce could go either way in my opinion. Carmont has been a great buy, as you said. Smith, well I think Tim will be a bit part player for us in 2009 before he makes his return to Australia.

IL has stated that some of the salary cap money was spent on improving contracts of younger players as he believes it's unfair that the idea Australians should be paid a higher wage is seen as the correct thing. This therefore means that some of the freed up salary cap money has been spent on this.

A team of 14/15 wigan academy players would be good (regardless of quality) because the heart and effort are there. Along with 2/3 good overseas players, preferably at 7, 9 and 3/4.

So the world and his wife keeps saying. If I was a Wire fan and the club let Gleeson go for Mathers and Phelps I'd tear my season ticket up! If it happens they must be really tight on the salary cap margin.

Mr Ed?
Is this connected in any way to the Mathers to Warrington rumour?
