It absolutely sickens me to think about how much of a hold RU has got over us at the moment with regards to pinching our players. I know at this stage it is just a rumour, but even so if lee smith goes it will again be a massive knock to our game. I really was quite shocked to read the attitudes of some of the Wakey support, in some respects I find this more concerning that the fact that union are poaching our best players after all that is only natural, why would you not want the best?.

Jonh, I thought you fought a good battle with those numptys, however the old saying “there is no point arguing with an idiot” springs to mind when I read some of their responses (especially about Farrell being pot!!!!).

I am on a bit of a downer after reading this, I always thought that to be a league fan you had to have this “us v them” attitude. I can’t believe people would condone it, never mind encourage it because it does not affect their club.

It beggars belief.

it is us against them , i think the cap as secured more clubs in SL than it has harmed . Why is it whenever some folk have a difference of opinion it makes them numptys. FACT when wigan could spend all they wanted and won everything as the little clubs scrapped up 8th rate aussies the sport was about to die , The cap evens the field why should i agree when its quite clear that soom wigoners want a SL like a premier League where Chelsea buy whatever and whoever. Clubs will die if the cap vanishes but off course that's my opinion .

That thread is the main reason why i dont bother posting on other teams boards. As soon as they find out your a wigan fan, it turns into a anti wigan rant about how we only want the rules changing so we can buy success again.

I dont even bother to tell them the reason we could 'buy' success, was our success was based on the intial winning of the team and a want to become the best team in the world at our sport.

Any reasoned argument is usually followed by

Well you only won cos you were the only full time team, or more recently

you should have been kicked out of the league for breaking the cap!

You cant reaon with people who have made up their mind regardless of facts!

that im afraid comes part and parcel off being the club who did monopolise the league . look i have nowt against wigeon fans on this board and at the jjb i find them to be some of the most knowledgeable , friendly welcoming fans in the whole SL the way our the club still gets 15k plus is amazing i just don't think especially with the addition of franchise that we could operate the sport in the same shambolic way as the 80s and 90s

people are not "numptys" for having a difference of opinion to myself with regards to the salary cap. people are numptys for this "if it aint wakey, i aint bothered attitude". how can you be so wrapped up in your own team that you fail to notice the the sport your team plays is suffering and laugh it off??? i really dont get it, truely. :?

Believe it or not that really wouldn't bother me and i can't see why it would bother anyone else other than jealousy because they know their clubs could never be the top club. If Wigan wanted to go back to a policy of promoting the best young players and buying the best talent around then I can see no problem with it as at least we will be trying to be the best club in the world rather than the Wakey attitude of just wanting a good cup run and making the playoffs.

Teams are punished for wanting to achieve?

As long as it doesn't affect my club (XXXXXXXXX insert name) then I don't care, appears to be the majorities attitude.

Then they moan about the number of foreigners at Wigan, but never mention where all their players come from (they are not from Wakefield)

Like Jukesays so well stated, competitive yes, quality no.

I'm afraid the tail is wagging the dog.

Got a fair few British lads in the team that would not be given the chance at other teams.

People say they want to see the young British lads given a chance and that is what Wakey are doing.

Leeds and Saints are the only 2 teams capable of winning anything this year as it stands massive step forward!!!

Nobody is saying abolish the cap but why not just make things up to suit your stance?

19 of Wakefileds 1st team squad are English and 9 are home grown Academy products.

Now that may not be anything unusual but neither is it a statistic to be ashamed or made ridicule of.

In the six fixtures so far:
Vs Leeds 11 English Players
Vs Salford 11 English Players
Vs Wigan 11 English Players
Vs Hull KR 13 English Players
Vs Catalan 12 English Players
Vs Warrington 12 English Players

and thats with Moore, Rooney, Brough, Sculthorpe, Murphy, Grix & George unavailable for most of those games.

We'll see in the next few months who is in the better position regards a stadium!

The reason we monoplised the leauge though was due to short sightedness from the other clubs.

Wigan was not the richest club in the comp or the most successfull when we turned pro. The four directors only put in 50k each, which even back in the 80's wasnt a massive amount.

We were successfull because we took a chance at full time and it worked. It could easily have seen us bankrupt (which ironically it nearly did anyway). A chance that other clubs did not take for nearly a decade. And to listen to some narrow minded fans, this to was Wigans fault not their own clubs.

I dont want to come accross as thinking the whole league is against us as i dont believe that it is but, untill every club starts doing what is right for the comp as a whole we sill continue to suffer. I have critised the previous administrations selection policy as much as anyone.

We need as a sport to change with the times, something historically we do not do very well. Mo was potentially the most hated man in Rugby League, however without him the game would have died a death as soon as union turned pro.

We as a sport need revolution, not evolution. We need to make the sport better, not more competitive.

Sorry if that seems a little of a rant but loosing players to the other code, cannot be good for the game, even if those players are seen as not good enough past it or never will be's at the end of the day they are potential english squad players who will in the short term be replaced by overseas players, which further weakens our national side!
