There are always two sides to every tale.

Whilst its probably correct Ashton could have handled it better loyalty can only go so far.

Ashton is a big star in RU. A former player of the year and the top try scorer in the last world cup says to me he's a top name in the sport and can hold out for a bigger cut right?

Hate him or love him he's right to be asking for more if he can.

Ashton's old news and wouldn't get a game here anymore playing a proper sport.

At Fullback? Nah............Tomkins > Ashton

On the right wing? Nah..........Charnley > Ashton

On the left wing? Nah..........Richards > Ashton

If he kept his head down he may manage a game for the u20's at a push.

Why is this always the response to people not liking Ashton's attitude when he left?

I made it fairly clear that the beef is not about him leaving, but about the manner of his departure. Even that's not a big deal in itself, but when he's got the cheek to say that he'd never come back to Wigan because of the way they treated him, it's a bit rich. No-one in power at Wigan now was in power when Ashton was an underpaid junior. Therefore he must be talking about those poor muggins fans who had the nerve to be peeved at his posing in another club's shirt half way through their season.

I 100% agree with you. His departure from Wigan was a bad one and handled wrong. Don't know if he was poorly advised or if he's just a bit of a tool either way I don't really care.

My OP simply was in response to those who said he'd done the same again. For me looking at his current situation he's not done it again. He was simply a good youngster when he left Wigan and couldn't justify the wages he wanted that's not the case in RU he's got the standing to ask for the top dollar.

My view is that whilst no one "blames" him for wanting to move, whether its been as a promising youngster, or the superstar you feel he may be becoming...... He seems to have handled it badly on both occasions, or has been very badly advised. Not knowing the lad its hard to pass comment on him as a person.

One thing I find that, as a fan, I can't tolerate, is players rewriting history to suit their own agenda.

I doubt anyone would disagree that as a Wigan junior Chris Ashton was undervalued - simply because Whelan and Lindsay undervalued all Wigan juniors in those days. (It should also be said that he had many weaknesses in his game and his attitude, which Michael Maguire, for one, would have had a problem with - but that's a different story). However, for him to now be telling people that he would never come back to Wigan because of the way he was treated is pure bollox. A different administration is now running Wigan, which had nothing whatever to do with 'the way he was treated'. Everything about the club is different apart from the fans; so it must be us who treated him badly (for being miffed about the manner of his departure - as any set of fans would have been) - either that or he's talking totally out of his ar2e. I wonder which it is.

I, as a fan, admit I treated him badly, usually after he had let a high ball bounce or done an impersonation of a turnstyle.....
