Reading the article it’s clear there is absolutely no substance to it what so ever.

It’s simply a case of Austin and Widdop Will more than likely be leaving....so they need a couple of halves, so they are front runners for his signature.

It also then goes on to say we are losing Hastings and probably Tommy so we are in for him too.

There is nothing solid linking him to Wire over us in the article apart from the fact they will be needing 2 halves.

It’s no doubt been pushed out by an agent to inflate a potential SL salary for Williams.

If any of the top 4/5 teams have a half gap to fill and a marquee spot available they are going to be linked with him throughout this process until a club announces his signature.

I’d hope we are in pole position but GW would be crazy not to consider all of his options. It’s a short career and his financial security.

If we can muster something in the region of what other clubs can I’d be confident but if another club offer significantly more I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go there.

I wonder how long IL & KR will wait for this one to play out?

On the one hand we're relatively secure with Smith tied down and Field already here. I assume there's a date attached to French's 2nd year option too.

On the other hand, if we want a quality replacement for Hastings then those kind of deals are normally done relatively early in the season. You'd also expect that, if Williams does come over, he'll be taking our available marquee spot.

If he decides to stay in Aus, but makes the decision later on in the year we could have missed out on a few targets.

This is easier to say when it isn't your money, but there's no way we should be outbid.

William's will probably be a marquee signing, so from a SC POV it's a fixed amount. Anything above that is all about how much an owner is willing to pay him - between IL and Danson our pockets are as deep as any. It's just comes down to how much they want him.

Ha sorry for the confusion, the "easier to say when it isn't your money" was linked to the rest of my post and not yours.

It's a real difficult one.

I'd like to think that, if I was in their position, I'd be happy to flash the cash. I know what entertains me and if it was say a choice between £100k to secure Williams Vs a £100k car I'd pick the former.

That being said, if they don't want to get into a bidding war, I completely understand that too.

Some fans will probably still call them penny pinchers either way

Our chairman has been great for us and he has personally funded the club for a number of years. I do hope he sees the worth in bringing GW back but at the same time, I understand he’s a very astute businessman and rightly, he won’t pay more than he thinks a player is worth. It’s not about a bidding war (for me) it’s just about value for money.

I do not know where else to put this as it does not really deserve it's own thread but talking to some Widnes supporters they were saying that young O'Neil(?) is doing very well and has been the stand out player for them in several games.
