Another thing re Hastings which in fairness he alludes to in his interview - he needs a NRL club to make him an offer before he can play there. England has been a god send for his career as his reputation took a real battering after his disciplinary issues in Australia. No-one wanted him so was forced to look to England to continue his career. He's still in a situation where he needs to earn an NRL contract by playing well in SL.
You’d imagine his comments are also born out of the fact he maybe hasn’t had the interest he’d have expected whilst be backing back in Oz. Comments like ‘I’ll play for anyone, regardless if they’ve finished bottom’ and ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ doesn’t sound like they’ve been smashing his door down looking for talks whilst he’s been over there. He’ll want eyes on him this coming season and that if anything will be positive for us if he’s then going to be looking to smash it (not that he ever gives anything less than his best).
I can understand if NRL clubs are a bit wary still. The increased scrutiny he gets at Wigan compared to at Salford seems to be grating on him and that’ll increase ten fold in the NRL. At Salford nobody would say a bad word about the lad, he was the main man, the hero that turned the club around but when you go to a bigger club and drop back to just being the same size as the rest of the fish in the pond, you’re going to be scrutinised more, questions are going to be asked of you and it’s not always going to be ‘We love you Jacko’ and if he thinks some of our fans are annoying (and they are) then he will have to grow a thicker skin back in Oz, especially when dealing with the press.
