I bet the players from the late 80s are glad they played when they did, in fact I regularly see a former Great Britain legend drink driving on a morning and nothing is said about him.
The problem is this isn’t an isolated incident, the fact that makes it worse is he’s still serving a drugs ban, has just started training and within 2 weeks has already been arrested for drunk driving after a heavy night in the exact same place we don’t want him anywhere near.
There are more avenues open to support players that have hit rock bottom now, it came too late for T Newton. There are far more deserving causes than Zak Hardaker, some players leave the sport with very little and as in the case of a current Wigan player leave beacuse of injury/medical reasons. Too much time and money has been wasted on Hardaker already.
In all walks of life and not just RL, there are some people who can be helped and some that can't. The problem is that it sometimes can very hard to differentiate one group from the other.
