I really don’t understand why people want us to keep Clubb, obviously unless someone comes for him we will as he’s under contract but over the last couple of years he’s been poor, very low minutes, not a great deal of impact in those minutes either, it’s not like he’s coming on and causing carnage like Feka and with him being a senior player I would guess he’s on a decent wage. I would take Singleton, Bullock, Havard, Partington, Byrne, Isa, Smithies and Shorrocks all above him at front row and I would have taken Navarette and Clark above him too. If we can get shut I would, even if it’s just to leave space under the cap for a possible signing midway through the season.
That a lot more frequently than Clubb does. I was just trying to make reference to a player that played short minutes but actually made an impact at times, I can’t think of a better one that Wigan have had recently. Murdoch-Masila and Philbin are decent examples at Wire, he can come on against tired defenders and put a massive effort in for a shortish spell. Clubb plays a short spell but the only impact he seems to make is fronting up to the player that’s tackled him when he’s coming to play the ball.

More than Clubb definitely.
All I can really remember of Feka is him being torn apart by Wire in the cup semi and Brian Noble refusing to take him off because it didn't fit his rotation plan.
In that same game though, we almost came back into it as he made some big runs from the kick off and they tried not to kick to him. I guess that could be considered chaos, but it was partly his doing we were in that position.

Feka was a luxury and probably one we couldn’t afford around that time but I remember a season or two he was good very good imo. I think one was when we had Trent Barratt, I remember him having a really good spell one time and sky ran a piece saying it was basically cheating to have him come on for 5/10 minutes.

I cant recall that as i was absolutely trashed 8 cans of Export saw to that on the coach to Widnes
on a serious note though i have posted something very similar to that about our props. Feka was a crowd favourite because he could skittle defences and it was good to watch, but he was defensively a liability at times with that being the most notable example with Monaghan just running at him whilst he was on the pitch to the point we took him off, not having made any carries with ball in hand cos he was gone. On the flip side we had Stuart Fielden who would play 80 mins week in week out, but he was getting slated for his performances. Yes, he wasnt as good as when we signed him (external factors and getting banged by Willie M) but he was still a bloody good 80 min prop forward week in week out
re Clubb, he isnt in the same league as Feka in his ability to skittle guys but he is far more effective defensively. He can be effective in games but he cant do 80 minutes ala Fielden (but not many props can consistently do that). Is he the best prop we have ever signed - No, is he the worst - No. i am with the majority though that it is probably time to move on, but he has served the club well and been through some serious injuries and still come back, which is a credit to him as a person
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Yeah that Warrington semi basically killed Feka's career IMO as the Warrington hooker targeted him really effectively and the BBC did a great job of highlighting what they were doing. Every coach would have seen that, especially in such a prominent game, and noted to do the same thing whenever he was on. He was regularly destructive with the ball though right up until Maguire had him lose loads of weight in 2010.

Fielden - I thought the opposite to be honest. He got smashed around in a Wigan shirt but many of our fans still blindly praised him because of his reputation and his 06 performances to help save us from relegation. Pretty sure he wasn't an 80 minute prop for us on many occasions either but maybe my memory is fading on that point. These days they would have probably taken him out of the firing line after the KO, and dropped/rested him for a bit when he was getting ragdolled every week. That might have helped him regain form and look after himself more mentally. We didn't really have the depth to do that back then and it was more the norm to stick to the same 17 every week barring injury.
