I might be in the minority on this one, but for my money Josh as an out and out winger. He may have "decent" hands and pace to burn, but he is below average in his positional sense and he will leave us exposed.

Defense should be the first attribute required for a Centre and i dont think he has got it at the required level.

Stick him on the wing and we have a potential world class player there, who can score tries from anywhere on the park.

Charnley would rip it up at centre IMO. He's got size, pace, power and decent hands. His defence was a touch rocky at times but towards the back end of the year it was much improved and as a young player that can really be worked on whereas natural ability can't.

This lad can be top class at either winger or centre IMO and circumstances will dictate where he ends up.

He is young and of course he has the potential to become a better defender. However solid defense should be the cornerstone of a centres skill set.

Now i know that due to circumstance he may be required to fill in and that could help to give him an appreciation of another position, but his poor positional sense will hinder him massively.

I cant reiterate enough that he is a Winger out and out.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

Carmont and Gelling will play at centre this year. Charnley has been fantastic at times on the wing and seems to have natural ability there, don't fix what isn't broken for now IMO.

As a winger Charnley has the confidence and ability to take a man on unlike most of the wingers in super league, he left Brett Hodgeson on his bottom in one of the biggest games of the season. I would hate to take away the space he can get in his current position and tie him down inside someone else. He thrives on space outside and in broken play as we have seen on numerous occasions.

In the future he may well be a great centre but for now he is gaining quality experience in the first team by playing on the wing. Centre is the hardest position to defend in IMO, the positioning is crutial and I would hate to throw him in at such a young age when he isn't a natural defender. He is still our weak link in defence playing on the wing IMO, he is not ready for playing at centre in defence, even if he could do a job at centre in attack.

Saying that, I wouldn't mind to see Charnley play at centre in the challenge cup against the lesser teams just to see how he goes at the top level in that position. It would give the chance to someone like King to come in on the wing and play in the first team.

If he plays right wing then surely he's likely to play left centre? We've got George there. We need a right centre.

It was his first season of regular first team action, what did you expect? For him to defend like a veteran of 200 games? Of course he's going to make errors in judgement defensively, it's how players learn. When Ryan King comes through I suspect he'll do the same, Matty Russell, Logan Tomkins, Jack Hughes etc.

Fair enough, your opinion is your opinion, but I wouldn't write a player like Josh Charnley off at centre after him only having one year in the first team. Especially considering the only time he did play centre while at Hull KR he excelled.

And the majority of his defensive 'mistakes' were from having to come inside to cover somebody elses man.

I am NOT writing Josh Charnley off. The lad is a class act and one of my favorite players.

What i am saying is that he could be an absolute beast of a Winger, so why would we want to move him?

I know less emphasis is placed on a good winger over a Centre nowadays but it has been a long time since we had a real potent weapon out wide.

Players like Dallas and Carney had pace and power just like Josh. Why is it wrong to want him to emulate them?

Josh and Amos for me. They may well be question marks over whether Charnley can cut it at centre, and whether Roberts has regained full fitness. But even with those concern's, it's a far more tantalizing partnership than the other option.

In saying that Goulding will have my full support when the season starts, as it's only right that he get's the first chance to claim that centre spot as his own.

Looking forward to what Gelling has to offer. No doubt we'll just sort out one centre position, when not 2 minutes later we'll have to go about replacing Carmont. From listening to interviews and comments from the coaching staff about Gelling, including today's interview with Wane, it does sound as though Gelling is being slowly primed to replace George (that's me reading heavily between the lines though  ).

Looking on the Wire board, I'm intrigued as to how Chris Hill will perform for them. I'm intrigued because we ourselves in Dudson, have a similar project on our hands, of turning a guy with a whole host of potential into a top class frontrower. I wonder who'll turn out best?
