I'm not sure who the modern equivalent is, but we need an Andy Coley type player i.e decent yards every set and the ability to play high minutes. I genuinely don't think we need a superstar (even tho it would be nice). Scott Taylor would have been perfect, shame he had a pea heart.

Fafita has been known to do big minutes before we had these changes (not sure about now). For me it's more whether he's still getting back and forward again in defence when the ball has stayed in play for a long time and we've given away a couple of '6 agains'. That's not flashy stuff and won't show up on the stats sheet but if he isn't back 10 and ready to move up again as the ball is played then the opposition get a roll on.

Singleton is our modern day Coley.

I still think we need someone who can make big meters and drag numbers into the tackle.

I’m not saying Fafita is that man though.

I don't think Singleton makes meters like Coley did. I always think back to the St George WCC and how good Coley was that night. Set after set he was making decent yards. If we'd have won that night, we'd still be raving about his performance.

Singleton has been very good in his own right btw. I just don't think he bends the line as well as Coley did, or at least as consistently as Coley.

Totally different players Singleton and Coley. I saw Coley as a guy who could churn you out decent metres, he was solid in defence and a good experienced head. Singleton doesn’t make anything like the ground Coley did but what he does bring us is leadership, aggression and in a young pack, he’s like a bodyguard for those young lads. He can take more than his share of the rough stuff, dish out the verbals and allow those younger guys to concentrate on their games.

We need one more metre maker to play with the guys we have. It’ll make it a very well balanced front row if we could get one. I definitely don’t see Fafita as that man though.

It’s interesting as I don’t remember Coley as being the big meter maker.

Yes there were some individual great performances where he was outstanding I don’t think anyone who saw it will forget the St George game.

I remember Coley more though as a rawboned hurtful Prop who made meters but more importantly his meters were hurtful as was his defence.

That was my take on Coley too - just consistent metre making. I think a guy like that would go well with Singleton's aggression.

It's weird cause I seem to remember Coley getting quite a bit of stick by our supporters under Noble for not hitting the big numbers (tackles, drives, metres).

Similarly with Feka, who would do a fifteen minute stint and go off puffing.

I remember the same under Noble, but I think he really went to another level under Madge.

That being said, I always thought Coley fell into that massive list of players who were under appreciated by Wigan fans.

I used to really like Coley as he was a grafter, wouldnt take a backward step and could shift a bit too.

i used to get really frustrated with Feka, yes he was great when he ran onto the ball and skittled people, but it got that they were fewer and far between. I regularly had arguments with people around us who were calling Stuart Fielden, but loved Feka. Whilst Fielden wasnt really the same player after getting banged by Willie Mason, he still turned up and did 80mins (or 2 good spells if not full game) but was getting slated whilst Feka came on did 2 * 10 min stints and went off blowing out of his booty.

the debate about Fifita is interesting cos Wire outplayed us in a CC Semi as they ran at Feka when in defence so he was f***ed and unable to run the ball in and make any yards when we had it. An absolute master stroke of management that day on how to take a strike player out of a game (unfortunately we were on the end of it)
