There is a difference between being injured and being chronically injured.
I think when Sam wanted to come home we went for him for fear of anyone else getting him. At the time I was close to someone connected to the club who told me his injury was misdiagnosed and mismanaged by NZ which was potentially career ending.
Burgess injury was well known in the NRL and also regarded as being chronic.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if we are not doing due diligence on such investments not once but twice then that is a criminal error.

I actually listened to a podcast today with ST. He described playing on for the final 1/2 of his last season at NZW with a knee which wasn’t fit for purpose, as he didn’t want to not play for them before leaving. Didn’t sound like the injury was a mystery, to me.
Was interesting listening. Especially the bit where he described agreeing to go to saracens with Joel, them not wanting to pay a transfer fee, so he signed a new 5 year deal with Wigan only to decide ‘less than 6 months later’ that he wanted to leave and going into see IL who according to Sam flipped his lid!
