Lachlan may or may not be a very good player but the thought of his father being coach for another year or longer is depressing beyond belief. He may have had two difficult years but some of the performances by his teams have been dreadful.
We don't look anywhere near a finals team and Lam seems to have taken us back to the time Noble was in charge when he saved us from relegation but couldn't take us further than semi finals.
The club also need to bring about a period of change. With Lam here we are still in the shadow of the Shaun Edwards shambles. Remove Lam and bring a quality coach in and it's the new start we all need.
I know this is a rumour but please don't let it be true!

Huge, huge losses Harris and Deacon. I’d have both of them back in a heartbeat m. Our attack declined (on the excitement side) when they left.

As an outsider looking in I couldn't agree more that both Harris and Deacon were fantastic assistant coaches whilst they were at Wigan and some of the footy you played with them in that role was very good to watch and hasn't really been since they left the club,Even though you have still won trophies.

I have always had the opinion that my choice of an ideal assistant coach would have always been a player that knew how to unlock defenses and could run the attacking plays that the side would use each week

Where as the head coach would be the one that had the ultimate responsibility for picking the game plan each week and also for getting the mentality and culture required within the club to win the trophies

It's no coincidence that since Trent Barret has been assistant to Cleary at the Panthers that they have progressed as a club massively and have made the Grand Final this year

The interesting thing is whether or not Barret can be a successful head coach at the Bulldogs next year now that he is the one with the ultimate responsibility of running the whole playing operation at the club?

Harry Smith came from Widnes, Morgan Smithies form Halifax. The scouts job is to get the best players they can to the club, regardless of where they come from.

The scouts perhaps could do better locally when good class players like, Ben Currie, Tommy Makinson Stefan Ratchford etc and more recently Jack Welsby have decided to sign for other clubs, rather than Wigan.

There’s always going to be players who sign for other clubs. In the case of Currie Wigan offered him a deal, Warrington offered more and he signed there. Ratchford and Makinson were overlooked as not good enough, as was Sean Long if you want to really go into the past. It’s utterly unrealistic and ridiculous to have all our players signed only from WN postcode clubs.

You do know Wigan don’t have a monopoly and first choice of every junior player in the league don’t you?

They also don’t have a dispensation where by they have extra funds in place to sign all these junior players over any other clubs.

It would be impossible for Wigan to hoover up all the top juniors they do however look further afield than most and take on Leeds over the traditionally very strong Siddall clubs players and regularly come further East more than any other club from the North West.

Sean Long was at Wigan first, but blotted his copybook ... as he continued to do at St Helens, though by then he'd become an indispensable player.

You're right, though. It's never possible to get everyone.

One of the first things the Gang of Four did was seek to reclaim all those local lads who had gone elsewhere during the previous cack-handed administration. So big money was spent bringing back the likes of Lydon, Platt, Byrne, Andy Gregory etc. But for various reasons, Mike Gregory remained permanently out of reach, even though he was at a club who routinely failed to emulate what Wigan were doing at the time.

Even the best-run, most cashed-up outfits cannot secure every talented youngster they hear about.

Exactly, Currie was offered more by Warrington which also may have been also the case with Makinson going to St Helens and now also with Welsby. As for Ratchford, he may be one of the many players who also have been also offered more money by other clubs or advised not to sign for Wigan by parents on the advice of former players which was the case in a nephew of mine who signed for Warrington.

Sean Long was released by Wigan and signed by Widnes because of a incident which had nothing whatsoever to do with how good or not good he was as a player.

My concern is that many young players these days are not being signed from our own local amateur clubs like in the past which may indicate that despite the numbers of youngsters playing the game, the standard in general is not as good as in previous years.
