Much needed 2 points, hopefully it builds some confidence and relieves some pressure. A few more bodies back over the next few weeks and maybe we will find some consistency.

Powell gets a lot of criticism from the fans and I’ve given Shorrocks plenty in the last few weeks since he’s gone in to the halves but I thought both were excellent tonight.

They always say the game on the weekend after Easter is the tough one and today proved to be just that! It’s a fantastic win all things considered IMO.

52 tackles from Powell last night and 53 from Isa, Sarginson didn't play I wonder who the whipping boy will be?

Powell had a decent game last night and his kick late on took a lot of pressure off.
All 3 players you mention for me are decent enough as cover but ideally not in starting 13. I think the problem with all 3 of them is that none of them have a position where they excel and is probably why they get tagged as journeymen

What about Powells tackle on Matautia? That was a game changer/saver.

Powell had a good game but let’s be honest, they’re few and far between. He works his socks off every week and nobody could ever argue that he lacks effort but when compared to other hookers in the league, he’s pretty low down in the pecking order. Roby, Clarke, Leeming, Parcell, McShane, Houghton, McIlorum are all far better.
He’s good cover but I’d never have him as my 1st choice 9 if we had a full strength squad.

It was probably a game that suited Powell down to the ground - no skill required, just hard work and endeavour. He was invaluable in those conditions.

I just thought with a couple of minutes to go the kick more less decided that the game was over baring a minor miracle.

Re: Cas game : Mon Apr 29, 2019 7:22 am
It's always difficult when you have players who are honest tryers.

They'll often bust a gut for you in terms of effort, but that still doesn't mean they are long-term solutions.

For me, Powell typifies this. He's a willing workhorse, and Isa is similar. Players like that are vastly preferable to players like Clubb and Flower, who are injured far too often, and especially to players like Tautai and Navarette, who are totally ineffective.

But even then, I don't think you can afford to have more than a couple appear regularly in your first team. Not if you want to compete at the highest level.

You can't beat genuine class.
