What are we gonna do about Wigan? : Sun Mar 29, 2009 9:40 pm
I have been a supporter of The warriors since i was 6, and too be honest with you i am a little bit dissolusioned with them at the moment.

They have no consistency and it's been like this for 2 years!, and the only crumb of comfort i take from the past few years is that they have somehow made it to the play off semi finals! and arguably could and maybe should have won last years semi with Leeds.

So what is it? why are they sooo inconsistent? I don't see any progress, i think the future with the likes of Ainscough is positive, however we have Mark Riddell and Amos Roberts and without being disrespectful too them they in my opinion are at the latter stages of their careers?

The coaching situation is an interesting one for me, because for everything Wigan have tried with different coaches over the years nobody has reallly stepped up to the mark!

The late great Mike Gregory probably came closest for us, and you could argue Stuart Raper for that challenge cup win but other than that we haven't had alot of positives from which ever coach we have had.

Brian Noble came to Wigan with all these acolades from his time at Bradford, and at 1st i was excited by his appointment, but its clear too me that at the minute their isnt really any progress!

However at the same time would sacking him and replacing him with somebody else be such a good idea?

So at the moment i am confused and frustrated with the team, all i want is a Wigan team i can be proud of, and a team that plays well!.

I'm not against a new coach coming in but who is out there to come in if Noble was axed?

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Steve Folkes? We need an experienced coach from the NRL, Wayne Bennett would have been superb!

Defo not Graham Murray or Michael Hagan!

I would want Shaun Wane given the assistant role though.

I can't say I know enough about Steve Folkes although a Grand Final and a Aussie Coach of the Year says something. Then again Tim Smith was a Aussie Young player of the year despite his lack of ability to defend.

We need a coach that'll put a bit of passion back in the side and make them all understand the rich history of our club.

Adrian Lam

An overseas coach that played for this club with great passion and pride. He knows our youth players and how good they are and won't be afraid to give them their chance.
