The level of opposition to this is huge and I don’t see it being a long term solution to the issue and rules will soon revert back, however a lot of damage has been done in the community Union game already and it is a cracking opportunity for League clubs to capitalise particularly those in Union heartlands.

How can you have a game of rugby where you can't "wrap the ball up" You may as well play tick and pass.

i've just posted on Warriors fans about this

was listening to radio yesterday and a discussion about it. 200+ ex professional plus 50+ amateurs suing RU for head related / dementia type injuries already

the reasoning appeared contradictory as the change in technique is to protect the tackler, not the player being tackled, as they reckon 80% of concussions are the tackling player, and from a whiplash type effect (assuming) from contact high up, so lowering the tackling position (more likely to hit the hip, knees etc) will reduce it

The problem they will have in Union is that when a player runs in they automatically bend forward to hit the floor on their front so as to feed the ball through the back.
You will have two players both bending into the same position and I would suspect lead to more head on clashes of heads

All I can say is that I sincerely hope League isn't tempted to follow.

There has to be a better way to deal with these legal issues than by decimating the game. Insuring the clubs up to the hilt maybe, making players sign wavers when they sign professional forms etc.

The problem is that it won't end here. You know what lawyers are like. They'll end up sueing for taking headers in football, wearing your joints out doing track and field, getting jock rash through wearing boxes in cricket.
