"Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try
No hell below us, above us only pie"(John Ono Lennon born Wigan 1940)

Re: Power Packs. : Tue Jan 07, 2014 1:01 pm
One of the problems pre season is that you can't just go on last years evidence. Players are one year older and will either improve or deteriorate and not always depending on age. Number of apprearances mean nothing as it's what a player does with that experience that counts. Also, let's not forget that both Warrington and Wigan have damn good coaches, probabaly the best in Super League. I'm sure that whatever team Tony Smith puts out will be competetive, regardless of who is in the pack.

The folly of writing teams off before the season has even started was amply illustrated by Wigan last season. People put forward all sorts of arguements as to why we wouldn't even come in the top half and were then made to look pretty stupid.

However, as many oppostion fans have already pointed out Wigan seem to have the strongest team ethic in the competition. You just can't account for that when you are comparing squad strength. I think that it is this that will carry Wigan through, Leeds also have it and it's what Saints, Warrington and Huddersfield need to acquire.

If that's his level of performance in 2014 he'll go well.

Haven't read the stats but one of the above was playing for Leigh in the Championship 2 seasons ago......... the other has had 6 years in the NRL?

there is a long post highlighting Wires apparent lack of experience in our pack - while another Highlights the fact we still have some over 30's

But the fact Rogues has chosen to compare an inexperienced forward with a seasoned NRL player despite their similar ages, just proves that experience can be gained very quickly, Hill didn't look out of place alongside the vastly experienced Morley and Carvell and quickly eclipsed challenge cup winning forward Mike Cooper.

It's just the unknown.... Anthony England is a bit of gamble he could easily be another Hill, but he has had a spell with Cas and i don't know how that went..... Glen Riley is highly thought of but I see the early Mike cooper in him he doesn't look mobile or athletic but he is a big unit, they both are very big young men. If they land like Chris Hill did then we'll be a match for any pack, inexperienced or the wrong side of 30, take your pick

I think you have misconstrued Rogues point, He was using hill as a bench mark. Also i never said you lacked experience in the starting pack what i said is you don't have a lot of experience outside of it and the age of the starting pack will work against that. I would say chris hill is far from inexperienced how many finals has he played in now? Also at that age a lot of the problems younger players have gone.

your starting pack will do the goods again but if injuries occur i wouldn't worry about the bench unlike previous seasons, but hey injuries can happen to 20 years olds as well. First time in about 5 years i am really excited for super league purely because i have no idea how the top 8 teams will settle.

Wow. All he's done so far is express his opinion. Disagreeing with the majority doesn't make you a troll. There are too few contrary views on here as it is.

look at the post count and he was blabbing off about how nobody likes rugby league in Britain on the virtual terrace the other day so no its not just a different opinion.

he hardly played any NRL for the west tigers and whilst at the bunnies Maguire said numerous amount of times he wanted to keep him.

Not what Waney thinks:

Wane hinted that the 25-year-old ex-Souths forward – who represented USA during the World Cup – will be used off the bench.

He said: “Eddy is powerful – he’ll not play a massive amount of minutes because I want him coming on and making an impact.

Interesting article here with regards to Shaun Wane and his view on the supposed dying art of the impact prop. :-)
