Christ, the Wiganers make a good point in some cases when they say we're the worst fans in SL.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

In relation to comments about Phelps taking up a quota spot, I can think of quite a few players I would get rid of before him right now.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

'Do you remember when we had that meeting in Orlando? We talked about how we were knocked out the previous year by Leeds. And at the end, I asked you one question. "Do you want to be a semi-final team? Or do you want to do something special?" You all said you wanted to win. But talking is easy – it needed you to believe. It needed you to work hard – harder than you had – and make sacrifices. You did all that. you worked for each other. You stuck together when it was tough. And because of your efforts, you sit here tonight as champions. I'm proud of you. Be proud of yourselves. You've done something special.'

Shaun Wane's post-Grand Final speech. 5th October 2013.

I'm looking forward to seeing what being coached by Maguire and guided by Rads will add to Phelps play at FB. He was one of our most impressive players last year IMO and should go pretty well with being the first choice FB this season.

there is no doubt phelps is hardworking and of decent quality but the argument with him is that he takes up at quota spot, and these player need to be of the highest quality. what quota players would you get rid of instead to justify him taking up one of these spots ??

Right now he justifies a spot more than Roberts and Riddell, I'm not saying that because I'm moaning about overseas players, on last season he was better than them both. Bailey is another one, if quota spot players must be of the highest quality, no offence, but he certainly isn't, I like the guy and what he does for the team but he is hardly a top player.

I'm not getting this whole ‘our imports are going to have to be of the highest quality soon to justify their places. It’s BS of the highest order.

Even when the quota comes down to its minimum of three overseas players I doubt any team will have three top class overseas players in their squad. No team currently in SL has what I’d call three world class foreign players in their squad. Some like Leeds have Buderus and arguably Webb but then I’d hardly call the likes of Ali Lauititi or Eastwood as being in the same class as Buderus? How often is it that we’ve had three top foreign players in our squad at the same time?

So why is it going to be any different now? All of a sudden are these top class players going to be coming over on cheaper wages or something?

Piggy,
Roberts
Bailey

All this talk of Phelps being in jeopardy is crazy. We want to get rid of the most improved player in SL last season as well as him being arguably the inform FB for the 2nd half of the season? Some people say he’s overrated but imo it’s the complete other way around.

If Phelps plays like he did last season then he’s well on course for being our FB for the next 6-8 seasons easy.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Phelps really needs to work on holding the ball when he takes it in, he holds it in one arm and lifts the elbow up making it very easy to knock the ball out.

The new coaches do have a job to do with Phelps to help him improve.
Their main priority should be to liven up and improve our props. They need to make an impact and last season Feka was the only one doing that. A powerful and aggressive front row will do wonders for the teams results.
