If we did sign Shenton i think he'd have a similar impact for us as what Senior did for Leeds.

Shenton looks like a quality prospect and the way he held his own against for England last season proved he has the quality to be a very good player.

Excellent signing.

Yeah he would be a good signing, but only if are coaching staff can take him to that next level. For me he is stagnating a little and his ability is not really progressing as quickly as it perhaps should be.

A good signing if he can continue to improve, but where does it leave some of the young three quarters in are reserves who themselves will soon be ready for first team experience.

If I had my choice I'd personally rather take Owen over Shenton as I feel he already is and will continue to be the better player.

Shenton is exactly the kind of player Wigan should be looking at if we have to replace Carmont with somebody outside of the club. He's young and has a great attitude aswell as being very talented.

I'd love for us to make a move if and when Carmont leaves. It's exactly the type of signing we'd have made when we were top dogs in the late 80's and early 90's.

The new coach has already proved he can improve peoples games. I don't actually think Shentons game has stagnated tbh. Alot of Cas fans say he gets little ball to work with but he looks dangerous to me when he does get it and has proved at international level thats he's solid as a rock in defence.

I'd take him over Owen tbh but thats more because he plays in a position that we're going to have to find somebody to play in within the next year or 2. Owen is a fullback or wingman and at the moment it doesn't look like we need one.

Dont forget Dougie Laughton, Dave Robinson and the O'Loughlin brothers, all good players !!

Shenton would be a fantastic signing! But would we lose Thornley/Marsh if he were to sign?

Gleeson is no spring chicken either so we've got to look at replacing both our first choice centres in the next few seasons.

At the end of the day if these lads are good enough they'll eventually force their way in somewhere.

Shenton, yes please.

When we signed Gleeson IL stated that they had enquired about Michael Shenton but Castleford wanted ridculous money for the transfer fee so maybe Shenton wants to finish his contract and then come.

We are THE club. We have the best training facilities, stadia (obviously not ours), coaches and set up and now have a team capable of winning trophies I can see a lot of heads turning our way in terms of wanting to play for us and with Melbourne over watching on Friday and watching us last Saturday NRL players will view us as they did in the nineties, we just need a trophy in the cabinet to make it happen.

I'd imagine we'd have big competition from Leeds and they'd be favourites but you never know.

I've actually just watched an episode of the old 'up and under' show on youtube when we were on about signing Martin Offiah from Widnes. At the time we'd just had the Billy Boston stand built and it had gone over budget by £800,000 meaning we were struggling to get the money together for Offiah.

I say all that because Leeds could have similar problems in the next couple of years as they're revamping the South Stand and putting a new £500,000 pitch down. That could well rule out any cash transfers being made by them leaving a clear path to guys like Shenton.
