In all seriousness i've been impressed with Gleeson since he came here tbh. He sured our right hand side defence up first of all and we seemed to score more trys down that side at the back end of 2010. His attitude has also seemed spot on and he brings bags of experience.

It's 5 years too late but he's finally at the club he wants to play for and he looks happy.

Now that does merit an appendix to the Domesday Book.

In terms of recruitment, I agree with Hogan's post on the Bailey thread and this may become a problem. We have many good, young second rowers but we definitely need a ball handling backrower to compliment our runners and tacklers who can offload well and unlock a defence. We'd probably need to look overseas for a player like that.

In spite of what we need however, I believe Lenagan's desire to make everything as 'Wigan' as possible means that we won't even be examining the market for 2nd rowers.

Doesn't Farrell tick those criteria?

I'm not in a position to say, seen two games of his - one of which he was solid but unspectacular much like our other 2nd rowers and the other when he was downright dreadful.

Having said that I've heard all the hype surrounding him just like everyone else; whether he's the ball handler we need someone else would have to make that judgement.

Tacklers - Hansen, O'Loughlin, Bailey
Runners - Tomkins, Mossop
Ball Players - ?

With the potential return of Hock plus the potential we have with Tomkins, Farrell & Mossop IL or MM would be stupid to look at bringing in any 2nd rowers.

In the days of the SC if you can produce players as talented as the above mentioned (some of the best in GB btw) then you’d be stupid to bring in others.

We need to focus on bringing in as much home grown talent as possible and then look at picking out the true best players out there.

The main priority for next season has to be brining in truly world class prob like Bailey.

Is Asotasi out of contract at the end of the season btw? What a player he’d be for us

I have to agree. I think that to sign a second row forward now would be a complete (and even criminal) waste of salary cap money. It really should be our last priority.

Just to clarify: you're saying that Joel Tomkins, Liam Farrell and Lee Mossop aresome of the best 2nd rows in GB?

This is the problem though - we have numbers and therefore justifying more spending on the position is difficult but we don't have a variety of styles. If the club had an opportunity to replace someone like Harrison Hansen with an Ali Lauititi esque player, there wouldn't be anything to think about there for me.

Potentially they are, without a doubt and we would be stupid to bring in others should they reach that expected potential.

Things are changing at Wigan and watching the pre season game I thought Lockers' ball handling was very good indeed.
Lockers is a skillful player and maybe he's going to fill that role!
Thinking forward, as was mentioned here, Hock may well return mid season next year so that would be two top quality ball handling forwards.
Don't think we'll need signings in that regard.
