I can see it now a team containing Hargreeves at Prop (meaning Prescott/O'Carroll would have missed opportunities) and a backline of Robinson, Brown, Aspinwall, Goulding, Colburn etc and Melling would really put us in with a chance of a trophy!

What planet are you on?

From the players mentioned..

Chris Melling or Cameron Phelps

Colbon's a decent little player...IMO. Not saying he's world class, you've not got that many in your first team nevermind letting ones go. David Hodgson for example, when he left you wouldn't have thought much of it but he's turned into a very good winger who know doubt could have served you well during some difficult times.

Melling is another who has impressed me at times as has good ol' Bryn...gone a bit of the boil recently though.

Colbon is a decent 'not so little' player your right but he isn't good enough for Wigan.

Hodgson was another player in a long line of players that couldn't cope with the pressure of playing for a big club. Both him and Brown have thrived in a less pressurised enviroment and fair play to them. They're not quite good enough even now to hold down a place in this Wigan side.

Melling and Hargreaves  both nowhere near good enough for a place here at Wigan.

Wigan 'used' to let alot of their homegrown players go but at the end of the day theres probably only Shaun Briscoe who most people would want back. The rest aren't as good as the players we have in our side at the moment and we now have a group of kids we're going to hold onto that will be better players then the ones mentioned.

It's a good job Wigan have in the past let some youngsters leave because they've helped prop up half of superleague. We will now keep our best youngsters so clubs night have to fend for themselves abit more.

Yea but that's been part of the problem, not just with Wigan but with many of the sides to keep english raw talent out for an Ausi...sometimes who isn't that much better anyway.

You could have a class team with the likes of Briscoe, Hodgson and Wild in it. Back accelerate thing, I've already said part of a deal you have with a local uni. Other than that I don't know, forgive my ignorance. I was just shocked to learn you actually had uni's over there...although we really mean a poly don't we?

Of course Hudds have brought in some right crap over the years, no doubt. We are now building a solid academy and seeing some quality breaking through....Cudjoe and Lawrence being two of the best examples. Although, how good did we perform against Saints away last season with a team full of young, local lads?

I'm thinking Sean Long in the last 15 years we have been proven very wrong to have let go.

Apart from that i have not lost sleep over anyone else. maybe Gilmour was a wrong decision

The current Wigan players are that far ahead we should get a bonus point and win 7-0 imo :D

I love the fact that opposition teams fans from time to time like to drag up the fact we released a few youngsters years back. They weren't good enough for Wigan and that has been proved but these clubs should be thankful we did..............it's kept them in superleague.

On the Hull forum yesterday they had a thread about what young players from superleague they'd like to sign. One guy reckoned they should go for Ainscough because we obviously don't want him after letting him go to Widnes. I pointed out that this was a move to further his Wigan career not end it but thats how it will be seen from people outside the club.

I can't wait for 4 or 5 years time when we have a top side full of homegrown players and we can stick the middle finger up to the people that keep coming up with this sh*t everytime a former player has a half decent game.

Gilmour deffo, Briscoe as well. Not doing this to slate your club, all I was saying is that Goulding looks a decent player to me who needs a bit of developing but can come on leaps and bounds and be a great player for you.

I see similiarities between Wigan and where Hudds where when we appointed Nathan Brown. I think Maguire could have the same impact for you and part of that is getting the best out of some average players. I think Goulding has the talent, just needs a bit of coaching or extra support to shine...he will do though be it at Wigan or Salford or wherever.
