Apart from last poster.
Anyone in here that were at the game, and want to comment on the rugby.
Any positives to come from it, where were the problems?

The poster prior to you commented that it was error strewn but we hung on for a win. That's enough for most of us until we get the weekly "cake" interview telling us that we're on a roll, making progress, still searching for the "right" players blah blah blah...
Meanwhile, I'd be keen to see the progress being made off the park as we head towards the brave new dawn.
Will league express have an accurate Gaye figure? Was the fanzine up to much? How did gold lounge sales go?
Remember, good commercials are the future and whilst it seems the penny has dropped for the Hughes clan, it may well be 15 years too late.
Swinton? Really? If only just defeating cellar dwellers from the 3rd tier is to be celebrated then we're still in free fall.

Might be enough for you, that's fine! I am interested in what happened on the pitch and a measured view of the match.

Re: Swinton : Sun Mar 26, 2023 5:48 pm
I thought we were the better side but gifted them a try within first minute, failed to convert really decent chances to score about 5 times to their one and hung on at the end as they had their best 10-15 spell. They missed a routine penalty in 1st half that was ultimately the difference. We worked hard in defence with Natoli our best player. Walker had a lot of the ball and did well although he appears to lack the confidence to take the man on the outside. Didn’t see any poor performances and thought the new players were decent. However we do need to take chances when presented and leave out the gifting of early tries. Not sure Horsman was used. Crowd lively - small but decent contingent from Swinton. Crowd circa 600 ish I’d guess.

Forget the errors and the fact it was only Swinton. That was a great match. The opposition were no mugs.Attendance wise I’d guess about 750.The weather was vile and the clocks had gone forward so could have been worse.
Definitely a wise decision to swop stands.Even with a smaller crowd the atmosphere is much better.Plough Lane is a belter of a ground.Wimbledon should be very proud.
With the way the league’s going this season, winning two on the trot has been vital.

Entertaining enough match but two pretty poor sides. Fortunately Swinton missed an easy penalty attempt in the first half.

What happened on the pitch was we made a lot of handling errors that almost cost us the game. If we’d cut out the first half errors we could have been at least a couple of tries to the good, not going in 2 points down at the break. I’m thinking especially of the error playing the ball on the tackle following Oli Leyland’s 80m run.
And we seemed to get pulled up a number of times for not playing the ball correctly. Think Swinton got some too.
Best moment for me was scoring on the set of tackles following the 40:20 early in the 2nd half- bit like what Swinton did to us in the first couple of minutes.
Not much on show in the way of silky skills, mostly a bit of a battle with a fair bit of spirit on show . Credit to Williams for some of his tackling, particularly the one in the last minute to stop a likely Swinton try.

That enough for you NB?

Cheers all. Difficult to get a feel from what went on when highlights come out.
Back to same old London then not respecting possession.
