Fax game 20th August : Sun Jan 01, 2023 6:24 pm
Ey-up lads. I'm looking to book digs for this match and wondered if anyone can help with info. Is the game likely to be moved to Saturday? Also, which Travelodge/Premier Inn/ B&B is the closest to the ground? Cheers. :thumb:

Most of us don’t come from the area I’m afraid Hudds but Smithers may be able to assist. The Travelodge central Wimbledon is about a mile and a half away.

If you want to be near the eating & drinking options of Wimbedon (not a lot of shopping these days) then there is a Travelodge (only just opened) & Premier Inn & you could get the 493 bus to the ground or 20/30 min walk depending on length of your legs.

The nearest hotel is the Pelican London Hotel & Residence (3star & still open as far as i know) on the St Georges Hospital site in Blackshaw Road, which is about 15 min walk to the ground & nearer to Tooting's curry restaurants. I vouch for none of the hotels, though, but they look OK. At least in August you won't have to fight for space with the tennis crowd.

Cheers for the replies. We're hoping to be down for the weekend so if the game is moved we should be o.k. Unless it's moved to the Monday for the telly. :thumb:

Games being moved, both venue and times are something Broncos fans have suffered for years.

Regarding changing the date I'd think it's unlikely. All matches at Plough Lane last season and planned for this season were/are on Sundays with one specific exception. At the end of the football season, the pitch is relaid. Last year Broncos played on the Friday night. Sunday was an AFC Wimbledon fun day and the pitch pulled up on the Monday. Looks similar this year but the Broncos playing on the Saturday.

The Halifax match is in the football season. Those fixtures aren't known until mid/late June. A 50/50 chance AFC Wimbledon have a home match the day before (Saturday). Most midweeks (Tuesday) have either a league or Cup match. I don't believe AFC Wimbledon would want a Rugby League match played the day before. So unlikely the match will be any day but Sunday, and no chance of it changing before the football fixtures are known.

Plenty of Premier Inn's within a mile and a half of the stadium. Town Centre, Tooting and Colliers Wood all fit that profile. Coming down for the weekend and what you intend to do may influence your preferred location. Central London from Wimbledon is quick by train. I'd be inclined to go into London Sunday morning and head back to Plough Lane. Depends what you want to do I guess.

If you are coming by train from Halifax I guess you will arrive at Kings Cross. Just walk across to St. Pancras and catch a direct train to Wimbledon. If you get off a stop early at Haydons Road you are a ten minute walk from the ground. It's the closest station. Check for engineering closures though. They are common on a weekend. Northern Line (less ideal with luggage) is an alternative if the mainline has issues. Tooting stations for Plough Lane or Colliers Wood/South Wimbledon for hotels.

Can't see many Broncos games picked for TV. Probably get one game plus Tolouse at the bash, that will be it

Also can't see a game being televised at PL, unless by some miracle we are in the playoff mix come August
