Wakefields Future? : Sat Sep 04, 2010 9:31 am
Taken from the Wakefield site the following article from the Racing Post (apologies for messing up the linky thing)...........

Wakefield chairman Ted Richardson has offered to hand over control of the Super League club in a bid to attract new investment.

The Wildcats directors issued a statement revealing they are prepared to step down en bloc as the club seek to consolidate their place in the top flight.

Wakefield are among the clubs thought to be in danger of losing their Super League licence in 2011 and are pinning their hopes on moving in as anchor tenants into a new stadium at Newmarket, just off the M62.

In the statement, the club said: "The current board of directors feel the timing is right to look to restructure the board.

"To facilitate this, the existing directors are happy to either work with new investors or step aside in order to take the club to the next level and further enhance its licence application."

The club say they are already in discussions with interested parties.

Richardson, Wakefield's majority shareholder and long-serving chairman, is currently awaiting the outcome of a Rugby Football League tribunal called to rule on his position at the Super League club after he entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement to prevent his own company being wound up.

--------------------------------------------------

As a tribute to the unwavering support expressed by our northern cousins prior to the David Hughes announcement..........................

Wakefield are a disgrace, they should be kicked out of Super League, they have a rubbish stadium, sounds like they are asking the RFL for a helping hand (again), there crowds are terrible, their away support is pants, whatever have they done for the game, the Wakefield experiment has not worked, they should be forced to merge with Castleford ......blah, blah, blah etc

PMSL. We (Wakey) got into SL and have stayed in based on what happens on the field not where we happen to be based in the country. Ted Richardson does not put any money into the club and hasn't done for years (which means although we struggle - we are self sufficient with nobody bankrolling us to the tune of GBP 1.5m a season and certainly no "assistance" from the RFL with junior development, marketing etc... )

Our average gate is something like 6,200 and we have had our worse season since Kear arrived (remind me when you've ever achieved that and don't give me that Wakey have had 100 years crap - because for the vast majority of the time I've been watching Wakey - 25 years - we have had very little in the way of onfield success)

By the end of this year we should know re the new stadium and if that gets the green light then its onwards and upwards for us (you already have the nice facilities - just not enough folk interested in coming to them unless its to watch kick and clap)

Touched a nerve have we?.............there was a certain amount of irony in the OP and perhaps you now realise how pathetic and frustrating it is for Quins fans to have to defend all the diatribe that gets pointed in our direction (I notice that your response contains a fair chunk of said diatribe).

The game is stuggling as a whole for recognition and a higher profile and the individual circumstances our clubs find themselves in is a symptom of that. I hope you get your new stadium and can push on as a club, most Quins fans have an appreciation of how difficult it is to make any headway and don`t want to see any club fail......but this mind set seems to evaporate for many posters once you get north of Watford.

Life is pretty simple: You do stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.

'in a bid to attract new investment.'

Sounds like bankrolling to me. As UTS states it is the state of the game. Very few clubs survive without some investment from their directors.

Anyway a public announcement that prepared to step aside to allow others to help to take the Wakefield club forward does not sound like a catastrophe yet. Wording suggests that would continue as is but with new investors feels that the Club could actually kick on to the next level. I suspect there is probably some interest locally if this was the position and a public statement might be to see if there are others out there. Sounds very familiar...

Looks like Wakefield are finished. An absolute travesty tbh.
