There isnt a single sponsorship deal in the world - where it is purely money!
It simply doesnt happen.
So the quicker Quins fans realise this - the better!
Have a look at any major news story, the deal is always mentioned in 'worth' - i.e. Spurs have been sponsored by mansion House in a deal 'worth' £xmillion, etc etc etc.
Do we know if that is based on a projection of how many replica shirts will be sold in a country where Mansion are big players? Do we know how much Mansion House will attribute to 'free' advertising of Spurs on their betting sites?
Do we know how much they will take in image rights, and how much IMG will calculate the sponsorship to be worth to Mansion House?
Sports Sponsorship is much much much more than a simple blank cheque.
For example, Musco Lighting sponsored the England Hockey Teams in a deal worth £1.5million. HUUUUUUUUGE we all thought!
Until the exact nature of the deal came out. Musco Lighting would charge £750,000 to install World class lighting at any new artificial hockey playing surface.
English Hockey were laying 12 new turfs, so Musco agreed to discount each pitch by £100,000.
They then agreed to £300,000 cash over 3 years, so £100,000 per year!
Net result, the deal was £300k hard cash, plus the £1.2m saved on each lighting installation.
Therefore a deal 'worth' £1.5m!!!!!
