a few ideas : Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:20 pm
I work in marketing and have a few ideas which are relatively free.

As a Hull FC fan we came from the days of no promo to a bright new shiny Marketing/PR Machine.

As a fan in Isleworth, do you all have a meeting point? A pub, big on boistrous? YOu all gather, you all drink, word spreads. Suddenly the pint of Guiness you spilt on someone is sat 5 seats in front of you, you go say hello, he/she introduces you to their son(s). You introduce yours, suddenly 2 kids can have a fun day out rather than sat with dad!

1 month later, both sons want to bring a friend(s). They see dadday having fun, they hang out with mates and get inspired by the players.

From what i gather you Quins fans are very disparate (Maidstone, Poplar, Hounslow, Devizes, etc). What you need to do is get to know the people around you and socialise! Once that momenm grows - you start making progress.

Im happy to talk more if people are open to it?

Sarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them.

I'm sure your input will be welcome and continue to do so.

The largest single problem which is unique to QRL/Broncos et al, which is different from northern clubs is that the club is not in the heart of a community so the supporters over the years have seen the club play in all regions around London but without ever dropping routes which would then take at least a decade to produce a " community" around it. Most of the supporters therefore do travel in a long way to watch games and even though we have tried to build regional supporters groups in outlying areas in the past, they do not really seem to work.

The balancing act is in not discouraging the hardcore loyal but in the main, distance travelling current support, while building up a community within a 5 mile radius of supporters who to be fair, still will view RL as not their initial sport nor is it part of their heritage like it is oop north.

Having a designated local boozer is a good start, and the Twickenham Tup used to fill that role in the last incarnation of the Broncos at the Stoop, but how well supported it could be is another matter.

I completely understand, and as ive posted on another thread, you have something unique and niche in London.

Now either the option is to fight against it and dig your heels in, or do something different to accomodate.

Find a pub, have a word with the owner/manager.
let him know that on a match day you'll be bringing in +100 extra bodies.
Dont ask for any special offers/deals etc.
just be courteous and let him/her know. They'll appreciate the custom and the notice. Do it right, often enough, and they'll soon be welcoming you.

In terms of location, make it child friendly, make it car parking friendly, and make it public transport friendly.

You have to create your community which comes together on match days.
Organise meet ups for away games. Organise bigger meet ups for home games. Create your own version of community. Base it around whatever you want - but give it a proper reason.

Create little sub-supporters (like american collegiate alumni) - so the fans seated in FD could have their own little group and sing against the fans in FE (for having more money!)

Create the friendly banter. Start it yourself then others will follow.
But 10 bodies here, a family there, 4 young kids sat apart from other young kids - is not good. sit the kids together, let them run riot. Sit the teenagers together. whatever it takes to make them feel welcome and unrestricted.

Be innovative - thats what Quins is about. Your innovative in Nature (RL club in London), your innovative in concept (RL club off an RU clubs back!), your innovative in history (you dont really have one!) and your innovative in style!
So be innovative in what you do away from games.

I see Quins as a blank canvas, you can paint any picture and it can be as vibrant and fun as you want. You dont play in beige, so dont be beige!!!!!!

On the way up to the Skolars game yesterday, I noticed that just outside London Bridge station, large signs had been erected on building site scaffolding advertising `Lassco`s` the architectural salvage company. The signs are the vinyl type giving the company logo and contact details, which can be easily taken down and posted on other areas of the site/other sites/buildings etc as the building work progresses......i.e. the original purchase cost for the sign is a one-off payment.

The signs face onto the railway near a major train network junction, so potential exposure to the travelling public is huge. No idea what any of this might cost, but in these difficult financial times I would have thought that many building companies might be receptive to such an easy revenue earning scheme.......where all they have to do is look after a sign. Get a working relationship with a builder and they could roll this out to other sites/areas.

Might be worth a look at?....no pun intended

was watching an nfl doco. on one of their teams and they used the term bomb to describe those long high passes from quaterback to running back and i think gibson took that idea, realized you cant throw the ball forward in RL and adapted it to a "bomb" kick we have

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing for us. He comes from Tatler...which would be more of a fit with our Union brothers.
