In last week's League Express, there was a letter from me about how the mental health of some players can suffer when they finish playing, when some referees finish refereeing and when some supporters begin to grow old. My suggestion to them all is to lessen the chance of this happening, by spending time writing a fictional novel that is based on your own life, family and family history, work, home town and your rugby league involvement and interest.
Many RL fans who I have said this to, have told me that this seems an interesting thing to do but that they would just not know how to do it. For the benefit of such people I have also written three pages of advice. I am in a good position to do this because since starting writing as a hobby in 1988 and still working full time for the CEGB as an electrical draughtsman, I have now written around half a million words in six novels in a series that runs from 1962 to 2008. If you would like me to send you these three pages E Mail me at wgeofflee@gmail.com and ask me to send you Geoff's RL Writing Notes. However you may prefer to read one of my novels first or maybe give one as a Christmas present to a relative or friend. I would suggest starting with my latest novel which is called "Three Good Years". It runs from 2006 to 2008 and has a background of Work, Family Life, Saving the NHS and Rugby League.
