I'm not sure I can remember a more disappointing season. I had real hopes at the start of the year, with worries over our hooker options. Last night hit home how poor we have become, I understand we have lots of injuries, but the display was woeful. We sell our two best players mid season, we seem to lack depth in key positions, and I have little faith for the future at the moment.
It's been a hughly disappointing season, Injuries certainly haven't helped our cause, you only have to look at the forward pack that played on Thursday night to appreciate that but for me, we haven't pushed in or recruited right since the 2nd Watson season when we finished 3rd (I think) and narrowly lost to Wigan in the CC Final.
We've let players go, who we should never have let go - Jake Wardle springs to mind and signing players like Milner who might have been decent in the pass, isn't what we need now.
Something has gone massively wrong behind the scenes in Regards to Watson, that "Press Release" just prior to kick off wasn't in my mind very professional at all.
We need a major reboot on and off the field, whomever gets the job, needs to clear out those that aren't good enough and those that are earning far more than they are worth, I keep hearing that we've used alot of out budget? On who? On what? We are miles of Wire, Saints, Wigan, KR.
I would imagine Yates & Marsters are on a fair wack, Milnet will be on reasonable wage, Russell - no idea.
That's 4 players out.
As much as I raved about the Burgess signing, the moment I heard his brother say that we blew them out the water in Regards to wages, I thought jeez how much of the budget have we blown on him!
We've got a decent young crop coming through : Halsall, Walis, Rushton but we also need the right balance, which for me throughout the Watson era has simply been lopsided.
We are years behind the big guns, I even think we're behind Wakefield now, I think the relegation they suffered has allowed them to reset & I think next season they'll upset a fair few.
