the Claret And Gold Machine is ready to roll

sunday September 1st 2013, when a dream became a reality!!

Re: The Salford match : Sun Aug 16, 2015 7:59 pm
I've got no axe to grind with Leigh or it's supporters, but as i said last week, you have to accept that quite a few Leigh fans on various forums/social media sites have been getting giddy a lot this year, basically giving it the "big un" because you went so long unbeaten and beat ( and deservedly ) 2 super league teams in the cup.

even though most people were warning them that the middle 8's would be a totally different ball game, they wouldn't have it, 'all conquering Leigh' were gonna steamroll their way into super league and take 10,000 fans with them etc, it all got a bit much for some of them.
so you can understand why folk might wanna come on here and do a bit of rubbing in.

Re: The Salford match : Sun Aug 16, 2015 8:02 pm
Gave chase far too much space and he showed what he can do if left to his own devices!

The injuries we currently have didn't help and the bench we had today wasn't of the quality we've been spoilt with all season (although I presume Spencer and Acton are not fit as one if not both would have been on it for me).

50 / 50 calls we've been getting went Salfords way so that all important rub of the green you need when playing established SL games was missing.

Bottom line though is a full strength Salford looks a far different team to the one that has staggered through SL all season and I must admit if they had been able to play that team all season they wouldn't have been playing us today!
Pretty sure I still haven't seen us beat Salford away (when was the last time we won away at Salford?).

Need to get back to what we do well and remember these first two games was always going to be tough.
A good week in training before getting back to a packed LSV (this fixture really needs promoting locally in Leigh as we need a big vociferous home support backing the lads for what will be a really tough test against Wakefields Super 8's team).
Disappointed today but the target the club set itself is still very much in its own hands.

Well said Jenky!

Now's not the time for any of us - coaches, players, or fans - to be getting downhearted!

Re: The Salford match : Sun Aug 16, 2015 8:50 pm
Ball security, ball security, ball security....

& tackling.

I have said it before & I will say it again, offloads killed us today *again* & some very poor tackling in defence.

That Rangi Chase try, where he ran through 5 or 6 Leigh tacklers was woeful & made to look like a world beating run by poor 'slap tackling'.

I really hate to be calling out the frailties of the team but today the £million difference showed.

Looking across the park today, almost man for man Salford were physically a much bigger side & had pace to burn because they had a much better completion rate, therfore being on the front foot & retaining more energy.

Chatting early in the game I called for Leigh to run at Chase & Dobson as much as possible, hoping this might drain their playmakers & therefore taking a little edge off their effectiveness, however it's easier said than done.

Having said all that, I still believe Leigh can produce a much better performance against Wakey next week & I think they will.

A nod to some of the Salford fans I chatted to walking to Brookhouse after the game, not in the least bit did they gloat or suggest we are a poor side & furthermore, praised our away support very highly.

So, Salford much better than the last time we met & looked quality, Leigh outclassed but showed enough to suggest we might still be in the fight.

Thought Mickey Higham was fantastic when he was on.

Fans in the North Stand were awesome.

The Club need a big push to promote next weeks home match *as said elsewhere* & get a big & noisy home crowd in to cheer on the team.

Clearly some players know they won't be dropped, and quite what our young guns need to do to get a game remains beyond me. Acton and Spencer would have added some much needed desire in the pack

I won't bag the players who aren't in great form, they probably know it, but at some point soon a change is needed. A starting front row with a combined age of over 100 might work for leeds but sadly not for us....

We support the game for what it is.And if this little arrogant team from the championship as upset the world of sooper dooper league, then that counts for something.Put us on an even keel and lets see how you go then.

Of coarse they will get a bit giddy and over confiden - not arrogant - like you said we have probably the best two seasons in 20 years. But on the other hand there has been a lot of jealousy and ridiculously bad press aimed at the club for the way they do business and perform on the field by teams who we beat on a reguar basis.
