Stick with Mort for the kicking whenever he is on the park. The best and most natural kicker we have. He will get more than he misses from the touch line but just needs to cut out missing the easier ones. This will come by continuing to be backed as kicker and I will say now he will get 75%

Morty will get more than that over the season, I've seen him on many an occasion practise kicking on LMR he doesn't normally miss many, Sunday was an off day for him.

Be interesting to see what team we put out considering the short turn around, and this being a big test for us so we can't afford to rest any players. Morty is the best kicker at the club and when he's on the field he should be kicking... with Riddy as backup.

He did indeed, with one of the forwards (can't remember who Taylor? ) as first receiver.

when defending scrums in an opponents half, usually either mort or ridyard go in at loose to let JT stiffen up the defence.

Good coaching IMO

you could however argue that this leaves us open to a long range kick and chase, however I think NK is confident that Smith and Stanton have more than enough pace to cover back if that were the case....

In the case of the latter, I don't think there's any doubt of that at all. Can't wait for Stanton to get some open space in the next few games.

Agreed I wasn't knocking it, I'm also sure we did it at least once in our own half and our put in with Armistead(?) running at their HB.

Mixing it up will cause confusion with the opponents as you said good coaching.

the 'ploy' of using a forward at stand-off at scrums goes back to the saints days when George Mann went to that position at 'attacking' scrums and played havoc with defenders and possibly earlier than that (Im sure I saw it at Leigh with Martyn back in the early 60's a few times).

Wasn't meaning to say its 'new' just that its good to see us mixing it up keep the opponents guessing/under control.

It even had Dick confused as to who was playing at loose

Mort will kick ahead of Watson, he's a better kicker although on Sunday he missed a couple of quite easy ones but then kicked some great ones from the touchline.

spoke to morty this morning ( we sometimes clash whilst buying our papers ) and asked him about his kicking.......informed me that he struggled a bit on sunday due to a groin strain gradually getting worse as the game went on, made kicking from certain positions quite painful!

obviously values the kicking role, and i can understand him not wanting to give it up when there's points to be had.........might be a casualty for tommorows game imo.......didn't ask him, just my presumption.

Hope he's ok - but certainly not short of options at FB.
Would go for Donlan, with Wreay (sp??) to Centre
