The Royal Oak was there, and was it the Railway?



Twas merely a nipper at the time.



When I was a toddler, I remember the Willow Tree on Heath Lane (Last Shift). Used to wait for the old chap on a Friday evening to come out after a shift in the pit.



The pub was deralict for years. I am sure it was haunted !!

The Royal Oak was right on the corner were the jobs place is know and the Live and Let Live was a couple off doors down Twist Ln. Quite a dangerous place to drink the Oak as busses and coal trucks used to crash into it regular.

What about the Red Fox on Chapel St , or the Bull on Railway Road?What was the Pub next door to the Telephone Exchange called?

Was it 'Our House' or was that on the opposite side?

I cant remember , thats why im asking

Was this the one in its last incarnation known as the Moonraker? I can't remember its name before that but Harry Ridgeway was the landlord in the sixties.

No Frank , on the opposite side next to the Motor Repairs place , was where the pub was , also where the CARTERS Arms was at the top of Queen St , was a Fishing and knives shop , sold toys to ,it was called Caves, what was the pub called next door to it?

It was the Con club not the Liberal Club at the top of Duke St.



Once came across the Tory General Election candidate at the next urinal. He said 'I haven't met a single Con voter in here yet" I said "You haven't met one here either!"



I almost felt sorry for him.

The pub i,m enquiring about is the one that is now an amusement arcade at the bottom of leigh bridge. I have been asking around and someone said it might have been called the grey mare but still unsure.

I remember that pub. It was just round the corner from the Bowling Alley which of course is now Aldi's. Grey Mare rings a bell.



The Hilton Arms on Twist Lane used to be Ince's pie shop and the club at the top of Duke St was indeed a Con club



My own exclusive apartment here in the posh part of Salford has been a culteral meeting point for over 30 years too although of course that is completely off topic.

It did become a chicken barbecue shop but before you were born it was Ince's.

BTW re the toffee shop us kids way back then referred to her as one fingered Annie despite the fact she had all her fingers but only one thumb.
