I really do not get this criticism of video refs. They watch the referred play and then give their decision.
Last night I am pretty sure had the game not been televised Batley would have had 1 more try and us two.
Batley deserved the win.
DIP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS ,dont be tight , subscribe to Premier Sports , then you will be able to watch , AS IM TRYING TO DO ,and make up your own mind .
I think the VR was right on all of the decisions. I hate to see benefit of doubt decisions, I just think it was a try. . . .give it! All of the obstruction decisions were correct
Last season in the early stages, when Bibey was available, Millward often used to start with Bibey, Duffy, Hill, Goulden, Littler and Taylor in the pack and boy was it effective. Of course Hill was superb and is a big miss, but if i am not mistaken, the other five are with us this year and Hill has been replaced with a good starting prop in Rob Parker. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to run with what we know was extremely effective last year. I realise that Littler is doing very well at centre, but with the imminent return of Pownall and the likelihood of seeing Matty Russell back with us soon, I am sure there is scope to run out with a very good back line there.
Ridyard improved a lot last year and had a good season, playing with a very talented player in Ellis, who had a very structured game and scored nearly forty tries for us. Again, that kind of quality is difficult to replace. Ridyard is just going through a particularly poor run of form, which can happen to anyone. However, the number of times we have had overlaps in recent weeks and chosen to turn back inside, passing up the chance of almost certain tries, has cost us hugely.
Batley played well last night, as we expected them to and were very tough opposition. However, after flying out of the blocks at 10 0 and subsequently spending a lot of time on the Batley line in the first half, I cannot help thinking the game was there for the taking, if we had used our heads and taken advantage of the several overlaps we created well, close to the opponent's line. We still nearly won the match with the strong last twenty minutes we had, but after the start to the match we enjoyed, it was a shame to see us being the side forced to be playing catch up in the latter stages. As we said after the Sheffield game , if lessons are learnt, then this could stand us in good stead for future battles ahead. It was an exciting game and Leigh certainly did not lose through a lack of effort. Keep the effort going Leigh, but let's just be a little bit smarter. Onwards and upwards to next week now.

nobody likes to lose, however i thought our pack was bossed by theirs tonight, i thought their halfs showed far more spark and gave them good direction, that is obviously excluding brierly who is the only one of our halfs who looked to pose them any problems going forward. missed nicholson, also littler, and big tommy. paul mennell their hooker said on prem sports we knew eigh would tire, well i did not think we tired, i think we were beaten by the better team end of. must say i shall be in attendance as usual next week, but i fear for us at fev, i really do, rowley lads prove me wrong please
I actually thought that they tired in the last 15 mins to be honest and the game was there for the taking we had enough ball just didn't do well enough with it .
What you cannot expect is to tackle a team as soft as we were doing and expect them to return the favour. We need to soften a team up with big big hits in the first 20mins and build with the tallent (and we do have tallent) in the backs. At times last night we defended like the attacking players were expected to fall down in front of us. The only other thing that can cause this is the teams confidense and before the PR knockers get on board, he was partly responsible for our great pre season matches. We had loads of it then.

I agree with you there Frank but there were quite baffling things that happend and the fact that beer was in the mix would sway people to their views on top of a defeat. Next time I go I am going to stay alcohol free and see if I can see better and I only had one. Not sure if they deserved to win though.
It grieves me to say it, but on balance I think Batley deserved it, disregarding the moaning, miserable Batley fans behind me (I don't think they were watching the same game), they out plalyed us, quicker to the ball, quicker with the ball and barring the first ten minutes and last 10 minutes pretty much dominated the play. We had them on the ropes when we were moving the ball quickly, but we kust didn't seem to have the stamina to maintain it. All that said, I'm not despondent, I think we can still make a season of this and I think we can build from here, only goes to prove friendlies are no reflection on a competitve game.
